I'm in England

I've looked online and it says I don't need to? So who do I listen to ?

@SergeiL

They told me to isolate today due to my DD testing positive. They said isolate unless exempt and then moved onto the next section. I said ‘hold on a minute, been double jabbed and boosted’ and then they said ‘no you don’t need to them’. I got the feeling if I hadn’t spoken up, they wouldn’t have gone through the exemptions. They also told me the Omicron test was a separate PCR test that would arrive through the post. They said I would need to isolate if she was positive for Omicron but that changed last night so I think that will change. In any event, I am being extremely cautious.
So they send you a separate omicron test? I can see lots of people refusing to do that if it’s going to mess up Christmas for lots of contacts. Not suggesting you would.

I know I'm gonna get shot down for this, but I do think if you have a household positive test you should isolate, that rule baffles me!

YoureOnMute · 09/12/2021 14:33

You don't have to isolate unless it's the new variant. If you have been double/triple vaccinated you don't have to isolate but Test and Trace will still send you an email/text or call you if you've been listed as a close contact as they don't know that you've been vaccinated.

You then have to go online and complete the form; it asks you when your vaccination dates were and you'll get confirmation at the end telling you that you are exempt from isolation. You'll also receive an email afterwards confirming the same so you have it for your records, should you need it.

The same thing happened to me a few weeks ago and it was all fine, no isolation required as I'm double-vaccinated Smile

Call 119 for quarantine advice, i just called because I disputed track and traces advice. They agreed with my queen time dates and I’m allowed to follow them

Agree! A lot of cases in my sons school could have been prevented this way
SmellyNelliey · 09/12/2021 14:52

DP has tested positive, my children will be staying home for the 10 days isolation as will I, no matter how many vaccinations you have, it will still be carried/spread so for that reason we will all be staying home!

Verite1 · 09/12/2021 14:59

That’s all well and good but if you have children at school they will be recorded as an authorised absence if you do that. We didn’t do social stuff when we had covid in house but the kids still went to school (tested each day and remained negative)!

Watching with interest.

Didn't Javid say they are replacing isolation with daily testing? Don't know when that starts though. NHS website hasn't been updated yet.

Wish they'd let us know. I'm going away for Christmas (within UK) in 9 days. Meant to be meeting friends tomorrow, but considering cancelling as don't want to risk 10 days isolation. I'm double jabbed and boosted so would risk it if daily testing was an option instead

Userno63637348 · 09/12/2021 15:29

If it's omicron the whole family has to isolate but I would have thought if it was omicron you would have been told that? Dp has covid currently, I'm double jabbed and haven't been told I need to isolate (tbf I have staying home anyway).

OnwardsAndSideways1 · 09/12/2021 15:55

Soon no-one will have to isolate for being a contact of Omicron because this is being done away with, and replaced with daily tests, because the government want to avoid a 'pingdemic' again.

There is often a delay between these announcements and the Test and Trace catching up, they tried to tell us we had to isolate when the changes came in last time and I just ignored them as it's either ok to do daily tests and go about your business or it isn't, and the fact we were one day on the wrong side of the deadline wasn't going to make any difference.

I've also had Test and Trace tell me incorrect info, so double-check.

If we are moving immediately to a daily test situation, I would use your judgement as to whether you need to isolate today, but someone being a contact on Monday (or whenever the change is happening) does not...soon there might (or might not) be a million people with Omicron and the whole economy would collapse if all their contacts isolated...

Roundeartheratchriatmas · 09/12/2021 16:00

Is there a reason you didn’t ask at the time ?

I think you mean UNauthorised

Hi all thanks for your reply's

They called me and confirmed I do not need to isolate as I am double jabbed they said the part that says unless exempt is basically means if you are double jabbed. He made me send my email to him. He said they should make it more clear. Thanks everyone x

Good to hear but ridiculous as the vast majority of people will be either jabbed or under 18s so exempt!
shelbyy · 09/12/2021 18:34

My parents have been to told to isolate for 10 days as family member tested positive that they were in contact with. It's the omicron variant. At first they said get a test but now it's been confirmed as omicron they've to isolate for 10 days, the whole household!

shelbyy · 09/12/2021 18:34

They are both triple jabbed.

mumof52468 · 09/12/2021 18:48

@shelbyy hi I did ask if it's the new One and they said we would of been contacted already! He's day 4 now so I would of thought he would of heard something but u never no x

My family member tested positive on Monday and test and trace only confirmed today that it's the omicron variant. Said it has to go for further analysis. So after telling my dad to get a test a couple of days ago they then called him again today. Told him he's to isolate for 10 days and the whole household! He told them his wife was at work they said well tell her to come home.
We are in Scotland where this variant seems to be really bad and I don't know if England are doing something different. I know Nicola sturgeon loves to be different!
