Not the vax

Assume this was a cold, or mumps, or even syphilis...

  1. Bin YOUR MASKS, SAFELY. Why are people dropping them in the street, car parks, public loos etc? Aren't they hazardous waste???? Where are the bins for the masks, 2 years in?
  1. Eat healthily. Whatever happened to the 5 a day fruit and veg initiative? Why aren't people, especially now having it rammed home about the importance of vit D?
  1. Vote out everybody in Westminster, and demand Whitehall resignations, of all people clearly breaking rules and LAWS. By-elections as and where needed. We are either all in this together, for the greater good and well-being of all, or...
  1. PSA on TV etc explaining to people where the hazmat bins are for masks, gloves etc, how to up your Vit D, C etc , truths about medical protocols being used, drugs that do and will work, and those which won't, when and how to access a GP before you become a burden on the NHS with an overdue cancer diagnosis etc.

Anything else?!

Points 1-5 I agree with you to a degree… not following you at all on point 6! And I think people do know they should eat fruit and veg, the reasons why they don’t are complex and need addressing properly, I agree getting rid of pretty much the whole of the current government would probably help with this…. Even more importantly than fruit and veg especially when it comes to COVID is that obesity epidemic in the UK needs addressing but in the same whole population state-interventionist way. Yes government should absolutely lead by example also. On point 4 drugs that do and don’t work I’d have to say this absolutely includes the vaccine (I know you said not the vax and I can’t work out if you are an anti-vaxxer or whether this bit is so obvious it doesn’t need to be said…).

I’d add in for sure GET A BLOODY COVID PCR TEST AND ISOLATE if you have a cough or fever or loss of smell and taste (y’know like everyone is supposed to but in real life doesn’t bother, I have this conversation with people all day every day). Also the mad rule that you can just carry on as normal while others in your house have COVID in my opinion needs changing. And get a proper test and trace service working and a decent app - it’s had more than enough money thrown at it for it to all be this much of a shambles, it’s a disgrace. I’d put the woman who headed up the vaccine campaign in charge of it as well and sack the person running it now. And employ properly trained people who aren’t teenagers and actually give a shit. Also send more vaccines abroad to hotspot areas.

Basically get the vaccines right and get testing right and the public on board with what they’re supposed to be doing but everyone knows it’s not happening and nobody seems to give a shit. Get Labour in power pronto and find the NHS properly including giving a one-off bonus to everyone working in it during the pandemic and seriously look at staff retention and recruitment.

And clamp down on misinformation being spread by antivaxxer agendas on social media…

I’m sure this exact thread and wording was posted a while ago.

shouldistop · 09/12/2021 04:47

None of that will actually stop a virus though

HailAdrian · 09/12/2021 06:44

Noone says 'covidiots' anymore.

TopTabby · 09/12/2021 06:46

Yawn...

Virus gonna virus

Warhertisuff · 09/12/2021 06:56

Much as discarded masks are an environmental issue, they're not really a Covid risk, or at least a very, very low one. Having a bit of plastic festering that was once in front of someone's mouth in a gutter somewhere may be an eyesore,
but no one's going to catch Covid from it.

Sparklingbrook · 09/12/2021 07:01

I probably need a second coffee as it's a bit early for this but the whole list is completely unworkable. And I don't see the Syphilis connection. Brew

Warhertisuff · 09/12/2021 07:30

3. Vote out everybody in Westminster, and demand Whitehall resignations, of all people clearly breaking rules and LAWS. By-elections as and where needed. We are either all in this together, for the greater good and well-being of all, or...

The slight problem with this one is that the next general election isn't due until December 2024...

IgneousRock · 09/12/2021 07:32

Too much emphasis on masks in your post. They're not that effective at preventing the spread (although not completely useless either).

Kshhuxnxk · 09/12/2021 07:33

Wheres the santa biscuit hat?

Thatsplentyjack · 09/12/2021 07:33

Well which part of that is stopping the virus in its tracks? Confused

Do you think providing more bins, getting people to eat a few more satsumas and putting some health awareness videos onTV is going to stop Covid? Really? It's a virus. It's not going to listen.

EvilRingahBitch · 09/12/2021 07:42

All in favour of binning any litter but I really don't think there's an epidemic of people catching Covid by stepping on someone else's discarded blue mask in the street.

bluetongue · 09/12/2021 07:42

The only thing that’s going to stop it is either better vaccines and treatments or if the virus gets less dangerous and is more like the flu.

Outside of that lockdowns, travel bans etc are not long term solutions and cause their own issues.. It may be that health services need to be revamped somehow to cope with higher caseloads of Covid and still deal with all the other health issues.

People need to be able to live their lives and earn an income. Those who are scared of Covid can take extra precautions.

Sounds brutal and harsh but what else can be done?

1. Bin YOUR MASKS, SAFELY. Why are people dropping them in the street, car parks, public loos etc? Aren't they hazardous waste???? Where are the bins for the masks, 2 years in?

Bin your masks with the strings cut for wildlife safety reasons, but only when you’ve finished with them. Take your litter home. They are not hazardous waste and can be re-used many times. Covid doesn’t survive long on surfaces and fomites really aren’t a transmission medium.

2. Eat healthily. Whatever happened to the 5 a day fruit and veg initiative? Why aren't people, especially now having it rammed home about the importance of vit D?

Generally good advice but hardly going to stop the virus.

3. Vote out everybody in Westminster, and demand Whitehall resignations, of all people clearly breaking rules and LAWS. By-elections as and where needed. We are either all in this together, for the greater good and well-being of all, or...

Agree in principle but we have no opportunity to vote them out yet, do we?

No need for hazmat bins. Gloves are pointless. Agree need better messaging on what will and won’t work. I suspect your view of truths differ from mine…

5. How to deal with covidiots in public. Mask-exempt folk need protection as well.

No idea what this means. Wear a mask if you possibly can, preferably one that gives wearer protection as well. If you’re mask-exempt be courteous and keep your distance. Cover your mouth if you cough or sneeze.

6.BBC et al to declare before every programme which companies including Shell companies, agents marketing and PR agencies etc have contributed, fiscally or otherwise in ANY aspect, including to staff, not just the company.

No idea what you’re talking about.

  1. Get the vaccine
  1. Ventilate indoor spaces; if use of fresh air is not practicable, use a HEPA unit
  1. Lose weight if you’re overweight to reduce your risks
  1. Increase SSP to permit self isolation.
