Booster for household of immunosuppressed

PheasantsNest · 08/12/2021 19:19

My DD aged 16 has had both her vaccines as I am immunosuppressed. Does anyone know if she is eligible for the booster? It is six months on Sunday since her second one. I called 119 and they didn't know. I've tried booking online and it asked if she was vulnerable which she isn't.

I think she shouid be, as it 'counts' as the old group 6 (who are entitled)

But whether you can actually make this shambles of a system work s another question entirely.

My teens in similar situation aren't yet 6 month qualified (because of balls up in booking systems) the but are over 3 months, so might be eligible. But I'm really not sure I can face the stress of dealing with omnishambles yet again

It has been a farce all along. The guy on 119 kept me on hold 25 minutes and said he couldn't find an answer for me. I might find a walk in and see what they say.

Yes she is. My DS had his last week but it can't be booked online, it was done through GP. I rang up and explained he was eligible as a member of h/h of a person who is immunosuppressed and he got it done a week later.

Great thanks.

We are in same position. My 17 year old is over 6 months now.

Yes your dd should be eligible for a booster if your dh Is immuno compromised, by which he will have been offered a 3rd primary dose as opposed to a booster

Wellbythebloodyhell · 08/12/2021 23:21
  • sorry just realised its you immuno suppressed not your dh. If you've been highlighted as someone needing a 3rd primary dose and you live in same household, take that proof of you needing/having 3rd dose to a walk in centre and they should booster your dd, or contact your local CCG to arrange an appointment

When I went for my booster on Sunday I asked about this, as there's no provision to book on the website.

I was told that if DH and DD (5.5m and 4m out from their second jabs respectively) took a letter with my diagnosis/drug details to a vaccination centre that's doing walk-ins, they'd be able to have their booster. We haven't tried it yet as they've both been at work but they're going this weekend.

Does anyone know if these boosters will also be given to 12-15 year olds? DH is immunosuppressed. They only just had their second jabs but thinking ahead here…

PheasantsNest · 09/12/2021 10:53

I have managed to get both my DD's booked in with the GP.

@Schulte I would think so eventually. It's the complete lack of clear communication.

At the moment there is no plan to booster 12-15s either "at risk" or "healthy" of course as we know this could change in the future
Cookerhood · 09/12/2021 12:03

Mine took their father's letter to a walk in & got their boosters with no problems (they are 20 somethings though).

nether · 10/12/2021 15:28

They've got their act together!

OK, I won't believe it until it's actually in the arms, but texts today inviting teens (household immune-suppressed) for their boosters as they are over 3 months since second shot. So the change from 6 months (which they have not yet reached) to 3 months is being implemented. Fingers crossed it all works this time round!

herecomesthsun · 10/12/2021 15:34

Ah. We have an immunosuppressed teen, but looking at the guidance, though they've had 2 doses, they aren't on a high enough dose of medication for a booster (needs to be 20mg+ and they are on 15mg)

longtompot · 11/12/2021 15:22

My yd is on immunosuppressive medication so my ed has had her booster. Ironically, I had to email our surgery several times to get my yd booked in for her booster. Hopefully they have put a note on her medical notes so we don't have to go through this again.

alexdgr8 · 11/12/2021 15:32

OP, have you managed to get your 3rd primary dose.
lots of immuno-compromised people finding it extremely difficult, GPs etc saying no such thing, only booster.
so frustrating. nhs letters telling to contact GP to get it.
GP saying it's just booster. round and round. unmerry go-round.
good luck OP.
