Do I really have to self-isolate for the full 10 days?

I went out shopping with my (vaccinated) niece yesterday, today she got pinged by track and trace and has tested positive.

The govt website says I should self-isolate for 10 days. This couldn't have happened at a worse time, the plumber has just started fitting a new bathroom and has hacked off all the tiles, so bath and shower aren't usable!

There's no leeway on the 10 days, is there? I'm fully vaxxed and boostered, but I realise I could still transmit the virus.

So pissed off ...

Surely if you're vaccinated you don't have to isolate unless she's got Omicron? You should probably do a PCR and socially distance from your plumber and the people wherever you're bathing as far as humanly possible though.

InTheLabyrinth · 06/12/2021 12:06

Where do you live?
Does she know if she has omicron varient?
England, with delta (still the major varient) and you double vaccinated, no you don't need to isolate.
You don't heed to isolate at all until test and trace contact you.

She got pinged and got a positive PCR back today?

She can’t have gone for a PCR first thing this morning then had the results back…
peridito · 06/12/2021 12:10

As I understand ,could be wrong ,you need to isolate if niece told has omricon ,or told she's suspected to have it .

If you're double vaccinated and neice not advised it's the new variant ,you wont have to isolate.

Forgetaboutme · 06/12/2021 12:13

I take it its just the LFT she was positive on? Doubt she got a PCR back this quick. If she gets a posituve PCR you will be contacted so long as she conforms she was with you. Then you go for a PCR. If you're vaccinated you only need to isolate if you test postive unless she has the new variant (unlikely)

Forgetaboutme · 06/12/2021 12:14

Atrocious one handed spelling from me Grin

emmathedilemma · 06/12/2021 12:15

If you're double vaccinated and neice not advised it's the new variant ,you wont have to isolate.
This depends where you live....in Scotland you do have to self-isolate until you have a negative PCR test (if you're double vaxed and have no symptoms).

I’m so glad to find this thread …
I have had 3 Covid vaccinations now (but most recent one was one week ago)

I spent 10/15 minutes talking to someone on Friday night. He later messaged the whole group that he has tested positive.
I did a LFT - negative result.
Did another LFT this morning- also negative.
Then - this morning- I have been pinged by ‘Test and trace’ telling me I’ve been near someone on Friday and should self-isolate!

I’m confused!

The NHS.gov website very clearly says no need to isolate unless I meet certain criteria (none of which apply to me, And I am fully vaccinated) OR unless it is the new Omicron variant…
I’ve checked with the person who has Covid - seems to be ‘standard’ not the new Omicron (as far as he knows so far).

Is the Test and Trace App just out of date?

plinkplinkfizzer · 06/12/2021 12:17

It only takes a couple of days for the paper copy to turn up .

DSGR · 06/12/2021 12:18

Hang on, if your niece is a contact of somebody else you don’t isolate. If she has Covid, you need a PCR test and if it’s negative, you’re free.
If she had a omicron you’d need to isolate

AnonyMum21 · 06/12/2021 12:18

@JustALittleHelpPlease
@PassingByAndThoughtIdDropIn

Thanks for confirming - exactly the same as info I have found

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 06/12/2021 12:18

There isn’t a “standard”. Theyre all just variants. He has a variant. It sounds like he has the omicron variant if you are being told to self isolate.

Freshprincess · 06/12/2021 12:19

If you are fully vaccinated you don’t need to isolate in England. That’s been the case for a while.

When did she take the PCR test?

PassingByAndThoughtIdDropIn · 06/12/2021 12:28

I've been pinged on the app twice recently. When I logged on it asked me to click yes/no to three questions:
Are you over 18?
Are you double vaccinated?
Were you double vaccinated at day X (two weeks prior to ping)?

I answered yes to all 3 and it took me to a page saying "that's fine, no need to isolate but please take a PCR (which I won't because I had Covid less than 90 days ago)". Have you gone through that process on the app Anonymum?

JingsMahBucket · 06/12/2021 12:29

@SparrowBird @MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry if the niece went to a 3 hour PCR test place, she would've had the results back already.

tangyandsalty · 06/12/2021 12:34

She might mean she's just done an LFT. OP you don't need to isolate if you're fully vaccinated, unless niece finds out via the pcr test that she has the omicron variant.

SivvyPlath · 06/12/2021 12:41

If you're fully vaccinated then you don't need to isolate at all.

SivvyPlath · 06/12/2021 12:42

Sorry - that's if you are in England.

Bumblebee2930 · 06/12/2021 12:46

If you are double jabbed and have no symptoms you don't need to isolate - assuming you are in England? Get a test though ☺️

AnEpisodeOfEastenders · 06/12/2021 12:47

you don't need to isolate if you're vaccinated

LakieLady · 06/12/2021 12:47

@MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry

today she got pinged by track and trace and has tested positive.

She got pinged and got a positive PCR back today?

No, a very strong positive on an LFT (it showed positive really quickly, too). She's trying to sort out getting a PCR done. She knows who her contact was, they gave her details to track & trace when they tested positive, and she's also trying to find out if they have Omicron.

They should really update all the pages of the govt website. The page that came up when I googled didn't make any distinction for vaxxed/unvaxxed, Omicron or anything. Most confusing, and thank goodness for MN.

Delete the T&T app - like a large number of people have already.

Unsure33 · 06/12/2021 12:53

It has been updated on the government website . Even for the new variant .
