Anyone know whether UK travel insurance will pick up costs of a quarantine hotel in Italy, if I test positive on my predeparture PCR?

You'd need to check your own insurance policy as it will depend what they offer

If insurance covers covid, then they should pay for hotel for the person who has covid, but not anyone else in the party, they would have to pay hotel costs themselves. But you need to check the policy details.

Cheers. On edge of cancelling trip as being stranded, even if insurance pay, would be something of a nightmare.

If I remember rightly from earlier this year, as pp says, most insurance policies will pay for the person with Covid, but not any other members of the party.
I'm in Italy and haven't heard of specific Covid hotels (unlike Greece etc iirc)
