Son is positive, I'm negative despite symptoms

Can I take the 2 x negative PCR tests as gospel when I got sick 3 days after my son tested positive with all of the correct symptoms?

Just seems such a small chance of me having caught another random illness at the same time my son has covid

I'd treat yourself as positive and maybe take another PCR

Had negative pcr, redid positive same as Dd. Dh did a lft after positive cr was negative.

This seems to be a thing at the moment. My friends husband tested positive no symptoms. Her and her son really ill and both tested negative.

Another friend. This week also, whole family tested positive but their son who they tested 3 times was repeatedly negative despite all the symptoms.

All doctors advise to not believe the PCR result in this sort of situation. Have you tried lateral flow tests, sometimes they’re better at picking up positives than PCRs?

Whatdoyawannado · 05/12/2021 18:24

I agree with trying a lateral flow test. It picked it up on my DS even though he had a negative PCR just over 12 hours before.

Hopeislost · 05/12/2021 18:48

I had the same and I eventually tested positive 6 days after DD (and 3 days after symptoms started).

Dp likely has covid. Positive lft and awaiting pcr results, he has been a close contact to someone with it.

I have a cough, I think (but not sure) my cough is totally unrelated. My tests have been negative but will get another pcr just in case.

Dp likely caught it off a colleague. I likely caught my cough off Dd who's been coughing for over a week and has had 2 negative pcrs! Half her class are coughing and none are covid positive!

Very possible it's 2 different things.

Work are insisting I return but I'm worried about infecting others

Dh and I had covid, oldest dd seemed to come down with the same symptons as us, which were head ache and cold symptons. However she done endless lateral flow tests and 4 pcr tests and they were all negative. She works in a school, initially stayed off for the first 3 pcrs, told school, but went into school after the 3rd negative pcr, some one more just to be safe and was negative.

Passthecake30 · 05/12/2021 22:44

I had all the symptoms when my Ds and Dp were positive. I had 2 negative pcrs and countless negative LFTs, never getting a positive. I felt so rough I didn’t go out for 1” days anyway.

Have you lost sense of smell/taste? That seems to be the defining one. If so I’d definitely be isolating regardless of negative tests

JanglyBeads · 05/12/2021 22:56

What symptoms do you have currently, might they be bad enough to phone in sick?

whatnumber · 05/12/2021 22:57

This definitely does seem to be a thing! Happened to us and another family I know. All the same symptoms but not all testing positive. Very strange.
