What’s the likelihood that me losing my smell completely isn’t covid?

This cold seems to be completely in my head. Sinuses feel compacted like concrete. Not hugely achy. Bit of a cough but not continuous. Headache due to sinuses I suspect. No fever. Realised yesterday I can no longer smell anything. I do have some taste but it’s dulled.

Negative LFT. Waiting on results of a PCR. Don’t recall this happening before which is why I’m wondering if it’s covid and I’m kidding myself it probably isn’t.

Colds can cause you to lose smell. I've had this previously. However no one on mumsnet can tell you if you have covid.

Ah have you? That’s somewhat comforting. I don’t remember being able to smell nothing but it’s certainly possible and I wasn’t wondering around trying to shell things at the time like I am now 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

Yes this can be a symptom of other things, not just Covid.

All Covid symptoms can also be symptoms of other things.

I suspect this is part of the reason they have never expanded the official Covid symptoms list.

The truth is, we would be obligated to constantly isolate and test if we literally got a PCR every time we had a symptom which ‘could’ be Covid.

The economy would not be able to cope with that.

I’d say a complete loss. Like literally no smell at all is likely to be covid.

I’ve had colds where I’ve lost my smell but I was a snotty mess & couldn’t breathe through my nose at all. Covid was very different for me. I had horrendous sinus pain but I wasn’t snotty at all & I could breathe reasonably normally. But smell just vanished. Literally 0. And my taste dulled to the point I click taste something was sweet or salty but no idea what the flavour was!

It’s 2 months later now & my smell is still about 20% 😭 it’s so odd as I can breathe normally, not congested in anyway etc .. hopefully it’ll come back soon!

I always Lise taste / smell with a cold.
