Did you catch Covid from your kids? If so how quickly?

My DD1 tested positive on an LFT on Tuesday (since confirmed on PCR). No real symptoms - only tested because of her friend testing positive. Now she’s pretty snotty with a bit of a cough but nothing major.

The rest of us in the family (DH, DD2 and me) are all negative so far. How likely is it that we will be spared?

I wouldn’t normally be so worried but DH has been very ill recently (not Covid related) and I worry that him catching Covid would be dangerous.

We’ve been keeping him and DD2 as separate as possible, but we are all in the same house. We’ve also been wearing masks and washing hands lots etc.

I’m hoping that since she’s likely to get less and less contagious we might be ok but any others have experience of this?

It’s weird because lots of DD’s school friends have got it and in those cases the whole family tested positive immediately.

I had hoped that perhaps we’d escaped but looks like we’re not home and dry yet

We had 7 days between DH and I testing positive on the same day and then DS7 and DD5 testing positive. We really hoped they escaped without getting it, but weren't that lucky...but to be honest we made little effort to stay apart.

Three of my kids tested positive on the Friday, Sunday, following Friday and then me on the Sunday so spread over 9 days. Dh did not catch it. However my oldest had it the month before and none of us caught it from him.

cloudcett · 03/12/2021 19:46

Dd1 started with symptoms on a Tues, tested positive on the Wednesday. Dd2 tested positive on lateral flow the following Monday, so 6 days later, she had no symptoms. Me and DH didn't get it. It seems quite random who will get it. We weren't isolating from the kids.

lebkuchenforxmas · 03/12/2021 19:53

DD had it in Sept, 2 months after I had the booster. She spent 48 hours more or less sleeping on top of me and I never got it.
DS tested positive a week ago. Quite a few of his classmates had it and he had a headache and was a bit listless so I thought I'd test him before we went to a big event. He was positive. I tested positive on a lateral 2.5 days later.
DH remains negative.

perfectpanda · 03/12/2021 20:07

I just tested positive 5 days after dd, after a negative day 2 pcr
. Still waiting to see who else tests positive. It's so hard to distance from anyone in the crowded house...

festivefuschias · 03/12/2021 20:31

No, we didn’t get it and we didn’t isolate from my DD at all.

Ormally · 03/12/2021 20:33

Yes, 5 days between first 2 sufferers' confirmed tests, then 5 till I got it. Don't know whether a domino effect or a longer incubation. I felt fine in the period between the first 2 cases.

iamthedanger · 03/12/2021 20:33

Ds2 had positive lateral flow on a sat, confirmed by pcr on the sunday. Ds1 was coldy but pcr was negative on same day. He then got temp on Thurs, had another pcr, this time positive. Dh had positive Lf the following Sunday, then confirmed. I then developed cold symptoms and tested positive the next Thurs. All in all passed through us all in just under a fortnight.

None of us had classic covid symptoms
aside from Ds2 with slight temp.

RandomMess · 03/12/2021 20:43

I caught it and DH didn't 🤷🏽‍♀️

MyFirstMyLastMyEverythingBagel · 03/12/2021 21:06

All 3 of my mine had it at the same time. Single parent. Eldest had symptoms, two younger ones didn't. Didnt socially distance (impossible in small house) and kids wanted cuddles. my youngest was sleeping in my room. All ate together, movie nights ect didn't increase cleaning (had enough to do keeping them from killing each other thanks!)

I didnt catch it 🤷‍♀️ I tested every day!

Kathy2020 · 03/12/2021 22:43

DC1 got it.
We all carried on as normal at home and DC didn’t isolate/ wear a mask
None of the rest of us got it. DH dbl jabbed, I’m dbl jabbed+ booster 2 younger siblings not vaccinated as too young
I don’t know how we escaped it? DC was asymptomatic so maybe didn’t have a high viral load?

elfycat · 03/12/2021 22:50

DD2 (10) caught it on a school residential trip Monday-Weds. She had a headache Sat and Sun and a temperature on Monday so we took her to be tested.

I was also tested on the Monday because I had the same headache she'd described. We both had Covid. So I was 2 days behind her on symptoms.

DH and DD1 (12) didn't catch it despite us all being in the car for hours while DD2 had just the headache symptoms. (DH and I were double jabbed, DD1 was pre-first dose)

Babymamamama · 03/12/2021 22:54

DD tested positive one weekend. She became unwell with what seemed like a severe cold. I felt it was inevitable I would catch it as I had to look after her. One week later exactly I tested positive. She is unvaccinated due to age whereas I am triple jabbed. I would say we had similar level of symptoms both pretty unwell with headaches exhaustion and headcold but I’m supremely grateful it didn’t go on our chests.

TenThousandSpoons · 03/12/2021 22:56

DD (tired/a bit off colour)never passed it on to anyone.
DS (coughing a lot) passed it on to me within 5 days of his first symptoms.

Preg19 · 03/12/2021 23:03

I never got it from my bezel 4 year old ds. He became unwell on the Friday and tested positive on lat flow and positive on pcr on Saturday. He has slept in my bed all week and continued to do so. He got lots of cuddles because he was ill, coughed on my etc I was shocked I didn’t get ur! My husband didn’t either, we did pcrs and lateral flows throughout

Preg19 · 03/12/2021 23:04

Bezel ! I meant nearly 😂

Preg19 · 03/12/2021 23:06

And had slept in my bed all week that should read 🤦‍♀️

gamerchick · 03/12/2021 23:09

My kid caught it, me and husband didn't. I was a bit surprised.

FrostyFrancis · 03/12/2021 23:10

Dd had a sore throat from Tuesday, but tested negative until Friday. She isolated in her room from Friday and we didn't catch it.

Ds had some strange symptoms during the week - a tummy ache, felt dizzy, bit of a sore throat and occasional cough. Tested negative until the Friday when he isolated in his room and we didn't catch it. I'd spend a lot of time with him on Wednesday and Thursday too and still didn't get it.

Wizzbangfizz · 03/12/2021 23:13

I'm pretty sure I caught it from dd2, I had a mild symptom tested and was positive - whole family did pcr out of 5 of us 2 with 3 without and the other 3 never caught it

ohtsmeagain · 03/12/2021 23:17

Son came down with it. He then was in the house with me and his brother for ten days. Neither of us caught it. His brother had shared a small campervan with him the two previous nights to son coming down with it ....he didn't catch it and neither did his dad who was with him. None of us have had it before. Hope that gives you hope!

SSOYS · 03/12/2021 23:21

Caught it from DS- my symptoms started about 4 days after his. I was double jabbed but he basically coughed into my mouth at one point (accidentally) so not surprising.

When DD had it, no one caught it from her despite us not isolating from her at all.

MuckyPlucky · 03/12/2021 23:29

Gulp. I was feeling all cocky about my “super-immunity” until I read this.
DD7 tested pos a fortnight ago & I never got it despite her coughing/sleeping/sweating on me for 10days. DD10 didn’t get it either despite them sharing spoons, toys etc & no soc distancing in the house.

My DD10 has tested pos today (a class outbreak) & is similarly hot/coughing etc as DD was. I’ve been cockily assuming I’ll not get it as was ok with DD.

But reading that others have dodged it from one kid, only to get it from the other, has depressed me

Sad

My DD felt unwell Sunday and tested positive on LF Monday, went for a PCR same day and positive result on Tuesday. Booked PCR for the rest of us Wednesday as 2 of us tested positive on LF and now all 5 of us have covid. Me and DH both double jabbed and DH had booster 3 weeks ago. Hope your DD feels better soon and the rest of you don't catch it.
