Would you cancel weekend in France?

I'm taking DD to Lille for the Christmas market later this month. The trip has been planned for months and was intended to be a treat after her school trip to Lille was covided off.

Would you cancel, given Omicron? I am double jabbed and she has had a single but had covid recently. We don't mind taking tests and wearing masks. I keep thinking it's a bad idea to travel but can't actually work out why.

No. I travelled this week for week and it was fine. PCR when I landed, result exactly 24 hours later.

It's a nightmare. We are supposed to be spending xmas with the inlaws. We arw nationals and double vaxed so getting in and out not a problem, just the cost of 2x tests for DH and I to get in, plus 4x PCR for day 2 getting back, plus the russian roulette of someone on the plane having omicron either way.
It's too far to drive for just a few days (4 days driving for return trip). With 2 adults you can just about drive it in one very very long day with infequent breaks and just switching drivers every couple of hours.
With kids there's no hope as they need a wee or a puke every 10 minutes. And even 5 min wee break at the services somehow takes an hour with them Confused.
We may have to cut our losses and not go but not looking forward to explaining that to the family, would be the 4th set of cancelled flights in 2 years.

Yes cancel. Anyone travelling abroad needs to bear in mind countries might suddenly close or the UK might close to travellers.

Even now I think many of us it’s really tough to “just cancel” right now, if there are family at the other end of the trip.

Generally we’ve been getting a bit of warning of regulation changes so in the context of the thread (France/UK, short trip) I guess many will keep all options open as long as possible and ultimately have a plan Z that might involve a mad dash back across the Channel…

Looks like France are considering tightening restrictions for visitors from the UK- www.reuters.com/world/europe/france-will-not-take-new-measures-now-over-covid-despite-omicron-variant-attal-2021-12-14/

France banning travellers without a "compelling reason to travel" from Saturday- www.connexionfrance.com/French-news/France-expected-to-introduce-stricter-UK-France-travel-rules-from-Saturday-December-18

Unless OP has already been, the trip won't be happening
