Are covid toes still doing the rounds?

Dd had two positive LF’s two weeks ago, I think we just caught the end of the infection as she subsequently tested negative on PCR’s. She was unwell and has a cough now. At the time I thought it was something else as she complained of stomach pain, sore throat and feeling sick. I didn’t realise about half of her school have covid at the moment with those symptoms.
Yesterday I developed a really sore toe. Never had anything like that before. It’s still painful, red and swollen. Got my PCR tomorrow.. just wondering if covid toes is still happening? Maybe I have the old school covid! What else could it be?

It sounds more like a bacterial infection.

Realitea · 30/11/2021 21:21

What bacterial infections can cause red sore toes? 🥺

I had covid toes earlier this year, from the time I went down with a covid like illness [negative test result] to the day I got my first vaccination.

Red, really painful, turning to purple toes. I got it every 2 weeks for months and it stayed for 4 days each time.

It was really really odd.

I had Covid toes last May, had Covid two months earlier.

Have you considered chilblains?

Realitea · 30/11/2021 21:54

Yes it could be chilblains although I haven’t been out of the house for a couple of days. It’s on three toes now and they’re really painful and red. I’ve just put some steroid cream on them. We’ll see if that does anything

I had it too, it took ages to go away. Very painful.

mistletoeandwine2021 · 30/11/2021 22:40

Gout maybe

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/12/2021 07:48

Steroid cream is a good call.
I've a proper crop of chilblains too and even the slightest knock can be agony.

Realitea · 01/12/2021 09:45

Yes - I knocked a toe yesterday and it was horrendous. I put steroid cream on last night and no difference but will keep putting it on once a day
