Ideas to manage constant cough 7yo

My 7yo Dd has a constant cough. Not confirmed as covid yet, waiting for pcr result. Is there anything anyone found that helps reduce the coughing so that she can sleep? Clutching at straws here, as coughs are very much her thing and I know cough medicine is generally a load of rubbish.

My ds was prescribed an inhaler which helped his.
His pcr came back negative but his lft was positive so 🤷‍♀️

Sorry to hear your daughter is poorly, hope she gets better soon. I always found with a cough, if you angle their bed so the head end was more upright (I used books etc under the bed feet) it helps the tickly trickle go down, rather than hang around and cause a constant need to clear the throat. I hope that is of some help.

Coughs are the thing here too. Some combination of the following usually helps a bit:

  • Humidifier if it’s a dry cough
  • Piriton if it’s caused by post nasal drip (off label but recommended to us by a GP)
  • Honey if it’s tickle throat

NB the thing that helps the most if it’s constant is a big whack of Salbutamol (10 puffs via spacer every 4h) but obviously that has to have been prescribed.

Good luck!

The GP recommended warm drinks when my DS had coughs. Lemon and honey is good but any warm drink. at night we had a humidifier and calipol plug-in
