Didn't realise how much the mask annoyed me until now!

Before I get shouted at, I've followed all the guidance and played ball with everything. So just making that clear first and foremost.
But over the past month or so I have stopped wearing my mask in shops. For my own personal reasons I've stopped wearing it and I've felt a lot better not wearing it.
After yesterday's news I went to the garden Center today with my sons and our my mask back on and I just completely forgot how much I enjoyed being able to smile properly and talk to people without shouting. I didn't realise before how hard it was to engage with my 1 year old when he can't see my mouth and he doesn't talk! Also was really enjoying wearing lipstick again 😬
I'll wear my mask, don't get me wrong, but I just forgot for a short period of time what a pain in the arse they are!!!!

I hate masks with a passion.

I have asthma and copd and I wear hearing aids.

So, masks make breathing and communication difficult for me.

I'm pretty sure I could get an exemption for wearing one. But I haven't tried, because I hold the lives of those I interact with as precious as mine. So I've continued to wear a mask throughout lockdown when I've been out,.

I really don't understand why mask wearing is, or ever has been, an issue. If you have medical reasons for not wearing a mask, it's always been open to you to not wear one.

And as for that prick who is our pm. Not wearing a mask in a hospital? Not wearing a mask when you are having a photo opportunity with the 95 year old David Attenborough? Really?

@TurnUpTurnip

I’ve read a few posts on here recently where anyone who dares to mention they don’t want to wear a mask again is jumped on and told to basically shut up and not complain.
Which doesn't mean they are mask lovers. Just that they'd quite like for all this to be over and if wearing a mask helps that, then so be it.
PAFMO · 28/11/2021 20:47

@Skips123

I feel the same OP. I have a 8 month old son and don't like wearing a mask as he cannot see my face or my facial expressions! I'll be avoiding the shops again now. Which is a shame but good for my bank balance.
Are you wearing one in the house or something then?
Skips123 · 28/11/2021 20:50

@PAFMO what are you talking about? Obviously I mean when I'm in the shop with him Hmm

They get told to grow up. No discussion at all - like being 6 again really

@Carrotte

I loved them as I have a grumpy looking face
Yep me too. I could walk down the street without some dickhead saying "smile luv! Might never happen!!"

OP, check out the silk face masks on Etsy. A lot more comfortable than most.

I hate wearing a mask when I’m with my baby.

FreeBritnee · 28/11/2021 20:54

I honestly don’t mind them. In the winter they keep my face warm so if I’m shopping I just keep it on for the whole trip. I think I’d mind more if they forced us to wear the really tight ones. But the disposable blue/white ones are very comfortable.

Carrotte · 28/11/2021 20:55

Depressingly my baby is used to people wearing them

Ooh yes perfect for out and about in the winter.
Sunflowers765 · 28/11/2021 20:59

I hate them. It's been great not wearing one. People have to wear one for 20 minutes to go in a shop that's not so bad. But I work in a supermarket. It's hot, we're running round working hard. I will have to go back to wearing one from 8am til 6pm. Brilliant! Confused but then I think health care hospitals workers etc never stopped wearing one. At least I've had a few months off. I'll wear a mask, but the minute I don't have to it's coming off.

colourfulpuddles · 28/11/2021 21:01

So don’t wear it. I won’t be 🤷‍♀️

Oblomov21 · 28/11/2021 21:04

I hate it with a passion. I have obeyed all rules. But haven't been wearing it for the last month / couple of months, or occasionally I did.

Since covid began mar 20, both my part time jobs I never wore a mask at work, because I do accounts and I was in my own office, or my other job just me and my MD. When I did wear a mask for a quick sainsbury shop I hated it, glasses, fogged up.

The recent news made my heart sink. I will comply. But I hate it.

AColdDuncanGoodhew · 28/11/2021 21:09

I'm in Scotland so have had to wear masks throughout, can't stand the fuckers. I miss my lipsticks, my skin is going crazy with really painful spots and I really hate having to ask people to repeat themselves because I can't make out what they've said.

VicSynix · 28/11/2021 21:10

Just back from Paris. EVERYONE wore a mask. The shops were rammed, so were the galleries, restaurants, public transport, everywhere. Didn't seem to be stopping anyone from doing what they wanted. Why are we so 'special' and 'wah wah can't do it'?

Oblomov21 · 28/11/2021 21:14

Plus my breathing is difficult. And my peripheral vision loss is shocking. I can't see anything with a mask on other than what is in front of me.

My second job is in slough and I see many many hijab and niqab a lot as I drive to work. It made me question the peripheral vision of the niqab.

LoveGoldberg · 28/11/2021 21:15

I hate them because they make my glasses fog and I just can’t hear people clearly

PeachesPumpkin · 28/11/2021 21:15

Actually there are people who like wearing them. I do. I feel protected and hidden behind it.

Trixiefirecracker · 28/11/2021 21:18

Was very handy today as my face was freezing, amazing how much warmer you are with them on!

Mulhollandmagoo · 28/11/2021 21:18

Hahaha! You can also get away with not recognising people you don't really wanna stop and talk to Grin

I agree op..... I'll wear it cos I have to but I'm gonna moan about it!

november90 · 28/11/2021 21:19

Thanks for the replies all! Don't know why but just feels better to ted others share the same view as me!
It's just such an inconvenience for sooo many different reasons. First time round I wasn't that bothered, but since the rules relaxed I've tried to stop following all the Covid news and just tried to enjoy my life using my own common sense. But now they're back I just feel really suffocated, physically and mentally! (Dramatic I know, but that's what mood I'm in right now 😂🙈)

Completely understand how you feel OP. I think masks act as a limited physical barrier for virus particles, but a more substantial psychological barrier to social interactions. They put people into silos and can make everyday interactions challenging to the point of being perfunctory. The little spontaneous chats and social niceties that make people smile and ‘oil the wheels of society’, so the speak, are often lost because people just can’t be bothered.

I am naturally soft spoken and struggle to project my voice through the mask, which means I often don’t attempt chatting to people while I’m wearing one, unless it’s completely necessary. It’s particularly difficult when I’m out and about with my very chatty preschooler DD and am juggling a buggy, bag and shopping basket while wearing a mask - she’s chatting away and pointing at things and I just can’t communicate with her properly.

Brokenrecord3006 · 28/11/2021 21:25

I completely feel the same. I'll stick it on where I have to but it just feels generally shit to wear. It also seems a bit silly that I'll have to wear one in co-op but can go out at the weekend in a packed out nightclub (not that it's my cup of tea!) and not wear one. Do we think more mask rules are coming along?

I don't even own a mask, possibly a very old disposable one in the bottom of my bag that I haven't worn since July. I guess I should dig it out...

Almost everyone on this thread has said they will wear them. They just don’t like them. If you saw them out and about they’d look just like the french people you saw. I assume there are french people who wear them while also saying they don’t like them.

Have you actually stopped any of these Parisians and asked them how they feel about wearing masks? Or lurked on French social media to see how people are discussing them on there?

I was regularly out and about in a mask where I live in London when they were compulsory earlier this year. No one watching me go about my ‘business as usual’ would have been able to tell how much I dislike wearing them.
