Vaccine in kids

Hi

This one will be contentious, but I'm sharing anyhow because it's something I personally believe in. US and EU parents now have the choice to vaccinate 5-11s. Shouldn't UK parents be offered the same choice? (Note the word 'choice'....no question here of obligation). If you agree, perhaps you'd consider signing:

I’d like to see the 12-15 yos offered a second vaccine first. I don’t really think the little ones are at much risk.

I’ve got a child in both age groups

Waxonwaxoff0 · 27/11/2021 18:27

Yes, personally I won't be vaccinating my 8yo but I absolutely think parents in the UK should have the choice to if they want.

They need to sort out vaccinations for 12+ first. Absolutely ridiculous that I can't book it via the gov website. Finally sorted how to do it (through schools immunisation team) and I've got to travel an hour away to get it done! In the middle of another city centre with no parking. Oh, and only available on one day a week Angry

If it was a genuine choice then yes. But no way will be be a genuine choice at all. Far from it longer term. Horrifying.

Reduceddutiesboredom · 27/11/2021 18:44

Shouldn’t we wait until the JCVI decide if it’s safe or not?

Or will people go against their recommendations like they did for the 12+ age group?

IcelandicCabin · 27/11/2021 18:45

I am desperately keen for under 12s to be vaccinated. I have a child who has immune issues and chronic asthma.

"People" didn't go against their opinion, the CMOs did.

And they, as the JCVI suggested, included futher evidence including impact of isolation, disruption to education and MH impacts to inform their decision.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 27/11/2021 18:47

I think it should definitely be offered to all those of Secondary age, and those due to start Secondary in the Summer if the situation doesn't change.

Chief Medical Officers would be better.

Given the fact that the JCVI is a govt advisory body made up of people who aren't necessarily medical experts or even work in the field. And also the fact that some of their (thankfully now ex) members were revealed to have proven links to anti-vax groups etc.

Yup @PAFMO

Now turning his hand at discouraging the use of masks, despite experts being in agreement they reduce transmission

Press conference seems closer to the panic end of the spectrum than the calming noises from SA. Doubling down on increasingly discredited face coverings with new mandates.

Totally agree. - Tried to squeeze that in to petition too, but character count is v. limited!

Chris Whitty said this weekend he was in favour - so hopefully that should happen soon. But latest data suggests primaries may now be getting even worse than secondaries...
