Who will be eligible for boosters next, if anyone, after 40-49 year olds?

Do you think boosters will stop with 40-49 year olds or will they offer it to 30-39 year olds next? Or perhaps other groups like all pregnant women? Or will they focus more on ensuring children and very young adults have had 2 doses?
There doesn’t seem to be a completely clear roadmap for the winter strategy just yet…..

I am hopping the focus will drop to the lower age categories, however, you can't have it until 6 months after your second and for most 30 year olds this would be around jan time anyway! Unless they shorten the bridge between jabs 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yes, I am 39 and my 6 months isn’t up until 30 Dec - I doubt they will have got through all the 40somethings by then

You are asking like the government has a long term plan. I really don’t think they know.

I think they'll remove the age stipulation (because the age brackets from primary doses will spread recipients anyhow) and it'll be anyone at 6 months after end of primary course.

This would also have the advantage of scooping up these who got their jabs slightly early because they are unpaid carers etc

They’re just starting for my friends! Only a handful got double jabbed earlier because of caring responsibilities, but most were second jabbed in June/July.

Pregnant women are already eligible for a booster as they class it as an underlying condition. I looked into it as I was pregnant (had a MC) but would have been in the queue for my booster. I hope they do give boosters to those in their 30’s but I suspect with this new variant of it takes hold it’s more likely the vaccine will get tweaked and then it’s back to the beginning.

Under 40s. It will be in the same order as the primary doses.

This sounds like a good plan @nether

@SGChome20 I am also pregnant and have tried to get a booster but the advice from RCOG and NHS is that unless I am pregnant and have another underlying health condition, I am not eligible.
I even tried pleading directly with a walk in clinic at my hospital after my antenatal appointment but they wouldn’t do it because I am 39. (The midwife mistakenly thought they would do it for me just because I am pregnant and sent me there but they said they are only allowed to do over 40s)

@Drivingslowtosavefuel that’s disappointing, especially as you are 39! I definitely read somewhere that you would be eligible but I can’t find it now. I am in Scotland so may be different rules. I have just read that pregnancy does qualify you in Ireland so maybe I’ve miss read that before. How pregnant are you?

Drivingslowtosavefuel · 29/11/2021 06:53

@SGChome20 I am 29 weeks pregnant so in 3rd trimester now. Am in England and not eligible at 39 yet. Hopefully the rules change soon as I keep catching every cough and cold my DD brings home from nursery while my DP catches nothing; so I do feel quite vulnerable at this point without a booster. Worst case I turn 40 four days before my due date so I could try to get it done on my 40th birthday….but bit late to offer the full pregnancy protection by then!
