I've had a bit of a cold this last couple of days. Nothing major and have had neg lat flows.
I started feeling a bit less snotty last night but started coughing. Nothing overnight and then coughing like mad this morning but feel fine. Neg lat flow.

I'm supposed to be going on a european city break tonight! 😭

Super quick PCR?
It's shit I know but you must check further.

purplesequins · 24/11/2021 08:32

sorry, you can't go. many (european) countries advise to stay at home with any cold symptoms.

Witchonastick · 24/11/2021 08:36

With any symptoms you should be testing with a PCR!
LFT are for symptomless testing only

Yes I know, but i didnt start with symptoms until late last night/this morning and i don't have a PCR testing lab in my spare room but I do have some lat flows, hence why I did one of those to see

To travel to all countries in Europe, you have to fill in a form to state that you have no Covid symptoms and are not a close contact of a positive case.
So you won't be able to travel.

Yes, but they still work with symptoms. They don't magically know the second you get symptoms & stop working. This seems to be a common misconception. The point of them is for population screening of asymptomatic people, to catch people who don't know they've got it. If you have symptoms they want you to confirm with PCR but it doesn't mean lft won't work.

Where are you travelling to?

All countries in Europe I’ve visited in the last year have asked for a signed declaration or form that says you don’t have any symptoms. Some go as far as ‘no symptoms in the last 14 days’. The only exception was the UK.

All airlines I’ve used have also asked the same question when checking in, and it’s the law to stay at home for 3 days where I live for example, if you get symptoms and regardless of how quickly they clear.

I’m afraid you won’t be able to travel unless

  1. your PCR comes back negative by tonight
  2. your symptoms magically clear in the next few hours.

Do you have good insurance, or are able to rebook the flights and/or accommodation for free?

This has worried me. I have a constant persistent cough - will I be able to fly? I know the rules for testing are new persistent cough but I've seem some places say any cough.

No trip for me sadly. Been coughing like mad all day which has wiped me out a bit. Waiting on pcr result. Gutted not to have gone away
