Confused about why I’ve been offered the booster

I’m 27 and have coeliac disease and I’ve got my booster booked for next weekend (which hasn’t even been six months since my last one but they kept texting me to book it)!

The only thing I can see is that it’s offered to people who have a “high risk of getting seriously ill” from covid. I was not aware I fell into that category and don’t believe that I do.

Obviously I’m not complaining and will go to get it next weekend but it just seems bizarre. Does anyone know why coeliac disease seems to count?!

Is it a third primary rather than a booster? It may well.be. How long since your 2nd jab?

Larryyourwaiter · 21/11/2021 15:43

Because it’s an auto immune disease. DD is 13 and getting 2 jabs because of it.

BettySundaes · 21/11/2021 16:40

If it's not been six months since your 2nd jab you will likely be turned away for that reason alone. I'd call and check rather than waste the journey. I was also pestered by text to book, despite not being eligible yet.

EvilRingahBitch · 21/11/2021 16:43

Yes, are you sure it's not your third primary? The data doesn't seem to suggest that you're at increased risk fortunately, but that research might bit have filtered down to the NHS list of conditions which prompt a third shot.

GoodnightGrandma · 21/11/2021 16:45

Was your last jab your first or second ?

TheSilveryPussycat · 21/11/2021 16:47

I think it's changed from 6 months to less intervening time? At this very moment, I am sitting down for 15 min after my booster (am ancient)

MRex · 21/11/2021 16:48

It's because your spleen is considered at risk: www.coeliac.org.uk/information-and-support/coronavirus-information-hub/vaccinations/#:~:text=Adults%20with%20coeliac%20disease%20aged,be%20offered%20a%20booster%20dose..

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 21/11/2021 16:48

It’s the coeliac op - my husband has been offered it for the same reason

OverTheRubicon · 21/11/2021 16:48

Like the above - you are at risk.

gogohm · 21/11/2021 16:49

It's a third dose not a booster because you are at high risk.

I phoned to book mine and they were very clear on checking the date I had my 2nd one.
TellMeAboutItStud · 21/11/2021 17:04

Wow I’m a coeliac and been told I’m not eligible for the booster… apparently not is my coeliac brother (each living in different parts of the country)

RaRaReba · 21/11/2021 17:06

Coeliac makes you high risk because you have impaired spleen function which weakens your immune system. How long since you were diagnosed? It seems your doctor hasn’t fully appraised you of the consequences of coeliac, which also include osteoporosis, vitamin deficiencies and bowel cancer.
