PCR before Dr....covid symptoms after nasty cold?

We all a really awful cold over a couple of weeks ago. Still getting over it (didn't have covid symptoms, numerous lft's negative, dd did a PCR before going back to uni which was negative) but yesterday I developed a cough and a temperature of 38° but I genuinely believe its a secondary chest infection after the cold‐ it's not a persistent cough just feels chesty and I still have my sense of smell and taste. Lft's through the house all still negative.

Think I may need antibiotics but will I need another negative pcr before I go? I am double jabbed and have also had the flu jab.

Typical that it is Friday and gp will be closed after today so if I do need one I may book it now to hopefully get the result back today.

Or if I register the negative lft I have just done will that be enough for the gp?

Thank you!

My GP has told me that if they think they need to see me they'll still see me regardless of whether I have covid or not. That said, they are trying very hard not to see people , so who knows 🤷‍♀️. One of them diagnosed my dd over the phone and prescribed antibiotics when she was unwell. Perhaps you could book a telephone consultation with them first and if they feel that they should see you they'll book you an appointment? I hope you feel better soon Flowers

My understanding is if you have covid symptoms you have to do a pcr test. Lft's are for those who don't have covid symptoms just to check if you are asymptomatic. As you've had a temperature I don't think lft will suffice. But you can always have a telephone consultation with your gp(if you can get one)

How long ago was the negative PCR test? If the cough and temperature are new symptoms I think GP will advise getting another PCR test before seeing you. Our GP has prescribed antibiotics after phone call for ear infection, so it may be worth ringing GP.

Hi all...well I managed to get through to my gp's surgery after holding for just 10 minutes! Receptionist was lovely and has put me on the triage list for a gp to call this morning. Advised to still get a pcr which I will book once I have spoken to the Dr. I said to the receptionist that if today had been Thursday I would have had the pcr today and called them once I had the result.

Can I also say...I know gp's are getting a hard press lately but my gp surgery has been really good. I am very lucky but I did get really lucky this morning!
