Schools told by the DfE to buy air cleaning units to reduce covid spread

The DfE has announced it is going to deliver air-cleaning units to special schools where 'quick fixes to improve ventilation are not possible'.

Other schools will have to buy them themselves, although with what money is a mystery.

I'm guessing that the CO2 monitors that have actually been delivered have shown that schools aren't particularly well ventilated? (My school still hasn't received any).

Just another thing to add to the long list of failures by this government to actually fund schools properly. Now if schools are stuffy and covid-ridden, it'll be their fault for not buying air cleaners. Hmm

@JanglyBeads

Perhaps proves that ultimately nothing can stop it? What year group?
Year 4! Nobody is suffering anything more than a bad cold thankfully.

Supply teacher here. I haven't seen a CO2 monitor in any classroom or school I have been to this term.

mrshoho · 18/11/2021 22:01

We've got one in our classroom. We switch it on but then it shuts itself off and we haven't got time to keep turning it back on during the day. It gets forgotten about tbh. We do have lots of windows open though. Depressing at the thought of another big dirty contract dished out to mates to provide yet more dodgy stuff if the airpurifiers are anything like the monitors.

motherrunner · 19/11/2021 05:48

Well my school is still in blissful ignorance as we haven’t received any CO2 monitors either, so no need to buy air conditioning units!

motherrunner · 19/11/2021 05:48

Or air filtering even!

Iamnotthe1 · 19/11/2021 06:44

Ah so I'm guessing the Government couldn't find a Tory doner with an air filter company. It must be so difficult being a member of the cabinet: limited on launching new initiatives until you can manufacture some way for the money spent to land in the pockets of doners and mates. It must be so frustrating...

But hey, at least there's no corruption in Britain, right Bozza?

I think only fresh air can really put the brakes on covid spread.

Which is difficult to achieve in schools.

Polar vortex sweeping down next week. Teaching primary with doors and windows open.
It’s hard to do your best work with your coat on, hood up and mittens.

Vaccines....the government really fucked that up too though.
