DC 7yrs tested positive for covid at the weekend and has been complaining of stomach ache since Friday, no other symptoms.

Is this normal? Is there anything I can do to ease it for her?

I had bad stomach cramps and diarrhoea towards the end of my isolation period when I had covid. To be honest it was probably the worst part of having Covid. I thought it was a consequence of all the paracetamol I'd been taking so I just used hot water bottles to ease it.
My 8 year old caught Covid from me he had vomiting and diarrhoea for a few days and a high temperature, those were his only symptoms, he didn't have much of a cough.

I wouldn't worry too much, so long as she's up and about, and not in agony. Children often get swollen glands in their tummy when they have a virus. Just calpol/ibuprofen and plenty of fluids x

When my children had Covid their main symptom was vomiting.

Covid does cause a lot of gastric problems unfortunately. Hopefully it won't go on too much longer.

A child I know has recently had Covid. Their only symptom was a tummy ache which went after a couple of days.

I hope your DC recovers soon. Prayers.

Both my DDs had horrible stomach cramps and mild diarrhoea with Covid. I gave them calpol which helped.

I hope your DD feels better soon.

First time I had it the first symptoms were tummy ache and diarrhoea, followed by body aches, chest pain and fever.

Second time was like flu, no gastro symptoms at all.

It varies such a lot.

I just wanted to add that I’d avoid ibuprofen with a stomach ache, it’s fairly well known to cause gastric irritation and should be taken after food too.

I would be making sure she’s properly hydrated (so try and make sure she’s getting fluids other than plain water, clear soups are good) and hopefully help it flush out of her system. I do hope she’s feeling more comfortable soon.

Dd1 had stomach cramps that we put down to impending first period (she's 13) then she lost her sense of taste and tested positive. Fortunately we had kept her off school with the stomach cramps as she was so uncomfortable, only realised later that they were probably the start of covid!
