Still unwell after the 10 days - sick note?

If you’re still unwell after your 10 days isolation but your work we’re expecting you back, were you able to get a sick/fit note (not sure what they call it these days) from your gp?

What did you tell them about your symptoms and did you have to go in for an examination? (Don’t want to risk catching something else!)

I am not sure if they’ll automatically issue a note or if it’s something you had to fight for?

Yes I got a sicknote. GP was somewhat reluctant but I didn't need an appointment. It just said 'ongoing symptoms of covid19'.

What made them reluctant and What did you say to persuade them?

I had a phone consultation and was signed off for 3 weeks no problem, then another week without having to even speak to a G.P.

My certificate states long covid as the diagnosis. It's awful.

What were your symptoms mumzoo? It’s hard to know what’s expected after covid and what isn’t? (Breathlessness, low oxygen, dizziness, exhaustion).

Yes I got a sicknote and was signed off for a further week. My friend was signed off for a further 2 weeks after Covid. I had a triage call with the gp about something. She said she had seen on my notes that I had Covid and asked how it was. I told her and that I was still fatigued but due back to work and she told me absolutely not and signed me off

I needed a 2 week sick note, GP happy to provide after a phone consultation.

My friend had 2 x 2 weeks off work after whilst recovering, she was still quite breathless and very fatigued. She managed a 30 minute dog walk each day, which she felt did her good, but she was sleeping a lot.

I had a telephone appt/consult as I wasn’t well enough to sustain a full working day.
I just said I was positive for covid and the 10days was up and I was due back to work, but I didn’t feel well enough for work still.
Gp was more than happy to issue a fit/sick note.
I requested a week as a felt I was on the turn and would be ok after that.
The Gp issued the week but also emphasised that if i was still struggling after that then it wasn’t a problem to call back and for the note to be extended if needed. Hth x

I think it depends on your GP, it will be so variable. I'd imagine most GPs will not want to see someone straight out of 10 day isolation who still has symptoms so they should issue it over the phone.

Mumzoo5070 · 16/11/2021 20:55

Stripedfrenchfancies I still had fevers, breathlessness, exhaustion, headaches, tinnitus, chest pains, cough, loss of smell and taste, loss of appetite (lost 10 pounds), eye pain, vertigo, rapid pulse episodes. The symptoms lasted weeks. Still ongoing but so much better. I feel really shell shocked about it all. I didn't expect to be hit so badly.

I got one for a week. I still felt pretty ropey & had awful sinus pain. I couldn’t bear to look at my laptop for more than a couple hours. So that’s what I did. Couple hours of pottering with to catch up on emails etc first thing & then logged off mid-morning. My letter covered that. I was back to normal the following week!

I filled in an online request with my GP (part of the e-consult service) & they issued one without even contacting me.

Unfortunately it was just one of those GPs who assumes if you're female you're just making a fuss. But basically as others have said, you can get a sicknote for covid without an appointment.
