Booking 2nd dose for 17 year old (& 9 months)

Ds is exactly 17 years and 9 months old but the system will not let him book a 2nd dose. Has anyone managed this, does it go from the exact date in the month or do you have to wait until the end of the month they turn that age does anyone know?

How long since the 1st dose?

Comefromaway · 11/11/2021 15:29

End of August. He went to a drop in but you are supposed to be able to book 2nd doses in advance now. (I'd prefer that as he's autistic and queued which was tricky for him. He was with his girlfriend but she's only 16 so won't be eligible for ages yet.)

Someone else posted about this yesterday and they were turned away by the vaccinator and were told that 17 year + 9 month olds only get the second dose if there first dose was done at 17 years and 9 months. Theyy to must be able to get a second dose at 18 though Confused

That poster got a letter through a couple of days later telling her child they should go for their 2nd dose

My dd booked hers (and had it) at 17 and 9 months exactly so it must be possible - booked online

profpoopsnagle · 11/11/2021 20:47

My DD was a few days above 17+9 but got hers. We booked online ok but they were very, very sniffy about it when she turned up for the jab. They almost didn't give it to her. I thought it was better to have the full protection now going into winter, than in Feb next year. The messaging needs to be a whole lot clearer.

I thought the whole idea of them being able to have it just before they were 18 was so that they were fully vaccinated before isolation rules kicked in.

Do they not have until 18y 4months to get both doses?

dementedpixie · 11/11/2021 22:28

Sorry its 18y 4m in Scotland and 18y 6m in England

Comefromaway · 12/11/2021 10:07

I can book today. First available appointment is end of November which unfortunately clashes with a relatives 70th birthday party so will have to go for a date in December.

Do you have a walk in centre near you? They would do him, I'm sure. I know you said you'd prefer to book but it would be much sooner if he went to a walk in. There are hardly any queues at ours

Comefromaway · 12/11/2021 10:24

I think 28th November is 12 weeks since his first jab so that's the first actual date he could be done anyway.
