Who is safer to look after our DC?

I started feeling like I was getting a cold on Wednesday, then tested positive for Covid two days later. As Wednesday was my day 0, I’m now on day 4 of isolation and have mild cold symptoms plus loss of taste and smell. I read that you’re most contagious 2 days before symptoms show and up to 5 days after, which means my contagiousness will start to decline from tomorrow.

DH has not got Covid according to his daily lateral flow, but obviously could catch it any minute from me (and may even have it already) while we wait for the PCRs.

Who is safer to look after our toddler DC from tomorrow onwards?

both of you between you

half a day each or 3 hour stints

If your DH is still testing negative, I would say your DH is safer, as you know you have Covid whereas your DH may have escaped it. You could try doing a lateral flow on yourself. If it comes back negative, that might suggest you are not giving off huge amounts of virus. An immediate very obvious positive result might suggest the opposite.

Thanks @LilyPond2. The LFTs I did on Friday were very strong positives unfortunately - the line appeared within seconds. Maybe I’ll try another one tomorrow and see if the line is fainter or gone!

Your husband. You have Covid, he does not at present.

DH avoided Covid both times in our house, so there's no guarantee yours will catch it.

Your husband. Treat it like D&V. Scrupulous hygiene and you concentrate on getting better.

Sigh… I can’t wait to get to day 10 when I’m no longer contagious! Mentally it helps a bit at least to know I’m less and less of a risk to my family from tomorrow onwards. Sodding Covid Angry

My timing is same as yours apart from my partner being 4 days ahead with covid too. We've just had to go with it on childcare.

I've been doing a scientific investigation (ha!) with LFTs. Still the T line comes up immediately. I've seen other 'scientific investigations' on Twitter where they start to fade after day 5, so I'm hoping for that.
