My Ddad is being ventilated today as a last ditch attempt to help him. Dr has said there is not much hope 😭. I feel so helpless. Any words of comfort and hope would be hugely appreciated x

Flowers there is hope. If there wasn’t he wouldn’t be ventilated.

Virtual hand hold.

CrystalMaisie · 01/11/2021 21:41

I have a friend who was on a ventilator for 60 days last year. Twice his wife was told he wouldn’t make it. He was on kidney dialysis too. He did make it, he is very well now.
Wishing your dad all the best.

Sunshineandrainbow · 01/11/2021 21:43

This must be so hard for you. Just remember the staff are doing everything they can and be caring for your dad wonderfully.
I have visited patienta who have come off ventilators and recovered well. It does happen.

FizzyBiscuits · 01/11/2021 21:45

I have a friend who was ventilated for 3 weeks and has made a full recovery. He also had kidney failure.

Porcupineintherough · 01/11/2021 22:25

Well if he wasnt really sick, he wouldn't need a ventilator but if they didnt think there was a chance ventilation would help him, they wouldnt put him on one. So there's definitely hope. Flowers

A friend of ours was ventilated last year for a long time after kidney transplant and caught covid in hospital shortly after operation. The family were told several times to prepare themselves and that he wouldn’t make it, but he recovered. It took a long time though, so try and take each day as it comes.

DriftingPlateTectonic · 02/11/2021 08:32

One day at a time. A family member was ventilated with organ failure and they came through.

CovidLungsGiveMeHopePlease · 02/11/2021 10:11

Thank you all for your kind words. He is in ITU, they have not ventilated him yet but have said he's getting tired so it will likely be today 😭

Ventilation will give him a chance to rest and give his body the best possible chance of fighting the virus.

The next few days are going to be very tough for you. Even when treatment goes well there will be progress and set backs and long periods where you just dont know what's happening. Do you have any rl support?

Merryway85 · 02/11/2021 14:08

Just wanted to say I hope your Dad improves when he is ventilated. Just try and take each day as it comes xx

newfriend05 · 02/11/2021 19:00

💐 always hope

ArseholesOnToast · 02/11/2021 20:38

My DDad is also in ICU with COVID and has been for the past two weeks. I echo others in saying take each day as it comes. The consultant is especially blunt and whilst my dad isn’t currently ventilated, it’s still a possibility. They’ve said it’s going to be a long journey. It’s certainly a rollercoaster.

I wish you and your dad well xx

CovidLungsGiveMeHopePlease · 03/11/2021 03:28

Thanks all. ArseholesOnToast sorry that your dad is going through this too. Its very hard just waiting for news. I think we're so used to drugs/surgery/a fix that just waiting to see if there's any improvement feels like nothing is being done? I know he is having treatment but there is no cure, it's very hard.

My dad is also in ICU with Covid since last Wednesday. He is on ventilator. Mu heart is aching so bad. It all happened so suddenly. This waiting is killing me. I am not ready to loose him. 😭😭😭

momofasweetboy2018 · 18/11/2021 21:19

@CovidLungsGiveMeHopePlease how is your dad doing? X

CovidLungsGiveMeHopePlease · 19/11/2021 08:37

momofasweetboy2018 so sorry to hear your dad is so poorly. Its a horrible time, waiting and hoping.

Unfortunately my DF didn't make it. We were called to the hospital in the early hours last week and told it was the end. He got an infection and it was just too much on top of the covid/the damage the covid had caused. We were able to spend several hours with him and he passed away the next day.

I'm truly sorry not to be able to give you a positive outcome. I know how I wanted to see good outcomes when I was in your position. Praying that your dad is one of the lucky ones Flowers
