How possible that I have a cold when DH has Covid?

He's had Covid for a week - started with cold symptoms. I had a negative PCR on Wed but started with cold symptoms today. I need another bloody PCR, don't I? Why am I even posting? FFS ConfusedGrin

Yes get another PCR

whatswithtodaytoday · 29/10/2021 19:01

Well yes, testing negative on Wednesday doesn't mean you haven't got it on Friday.

AttaGirrrrl · 29/10/2021 19:02

Of course you do. Just get it booked. Better to know now and tag your isolation into his than to struggle isolating from him and end up with an extra ten days afterwards.

IHeartKingThistle · 29/10/2021 19:15

Ok I'll go in the morning. I knew the answer before I pressed post really!

I've actually had a sore throat since Monday - does anyone know if that would mean I could take the isolation from then? Even if I had a negative test in the meantime?

I don’t think if you test positive now that you can count isolation from Monday, as you had negative result on Wednesday.

Am the only one of 4 of us in this house with negative PCR from.Mon / Tues and sent off for s postal PCR to do today as a double check as CBA to go to another test centre. I've had approx 40 calls / texts /emails from T&T this week so this will be the last PCR that ever gets done in this house I can tell you that much!

ifonly4 · 30/10/2021 07:58

I know of someone who had contact and had a negative PCR two days later. Six days later she tested positive. Hope you're ok.

MakingTheBestOfIt · 30/10/2021 08:00

Yep, another PCR test for you!

However, in answer to your question “how is it possible that I have a cold while DH has Covid”, the cold might actually be preventing you from catching it. theconversation.com/the-common-cold-might-protect-you-from-coronavirus-heres-how-158461

But test, obviously. Don’t rely on that!

IHeartKingThistle · 30/10/2021 08:56

@MakingTheBestOfIt that's very interesting! Fingers crossed for that! But yes, still having a test this morning!

My DS did a pcr test on Tuesday that came back positive. He'd been in close contact with a confirmed case. So had I but to a lesser extent. I started to feel ill on the Saturday whereas he started with symptoms on Monday.
I did a pcr at the same time and it was negative. I did another one yesterday and also negative.
The rest of us in the house are jabbed and all have cold symptoms.
I know we could still test positive in the next few days but we haven't so far and my DS hasn't isolated from me any more than usual (he spends most time in his room on his computer, he is autistic and prefers it).

IHeartKingThistle · 31/10/2021 10:20

DS and I both negative! So weird DH gets Covid and I get the cold from hell in the same week. And so shit that it was half term Confused

Had similar happen to me when DH had Covid. I eventually tested positive on LFT daily for a week and then lost taste and smell. Repeated PCD was negative but assumed I had Covid and isolated despite this I knew I had it. As we have seen either the Immensa lab fiasco the results are not infallible.

Gubanc · 31/10/2021 10:57

My family all have it. I've had two neg pcrs and keep doing LFTs every day, all neg. I've had 3 jabs though, a real test to see if boosters work.

Buzzinwithbez · 31/10/2021 12:46

I did read an article somewhere about how a cold could out compete covid, but obviously wouldn't prevent you from getting it in the future.

danni0509 · 31/10/2021 12:57

Yes you will have probably pcr too soon. I’d give it 2-3 more days and do another..

danni0509 · 31/10/2021 12:58

Pcr was negative for me.

Few days later lateral flow was positive for me, so if you have some of those you could keep doing one to see if it comes back positive.

IHeartKingThistle · 31/10/2021 14:53

Yeah I have to do another LFT tonight before I go back to school (teacher) anyway.

Can't believe I've spent half term this ill yet sleeping on the sofa and waiting hand and foot on DH because he's isolating!
