Did your 12-15 yr old have Astra Zeneca?

DS 15 had his vaccine today (invited by child immunisation team) as he was off when they visited school. I have just had the confirmation email through and it says he had AZ and the batch number says 'test batch'. I though kids were getting Pfizer/BioTech as that is that the NHS website says (due to the higher risk Vs benefit for younger people). DS12 had Pfizer according to his confirmation. Have emailed about batch number but have I misunderstood about kids not getting AZ? Anyone else's kids get given AZ? I know I can't do much about it but I do want to know if it is wrong (his dad took him and didn't see anything to indicate this - there was a separate queue for the teenagers so they weren't mixed in with general public).

That surely must be a mistake. Only Pfizer is licensed fir children.

BrambleyHedge · 24/10/2021 19:56

That is what I thought. I'm hoping the lack of batch number supports the mistake theory.

Only vaccine approved for 12-15 is Pfizer as far as I know.
My dc had vaccine today. I Process was way more thorough to get vaccinated than it was for me.

I find it hard to imagine someone would use the vaccine which isn't approved.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 24/10/2021 19:58

Are you sure it was definitely Az or are you just assuming from the batch ref? Only reason I ask is alot of AZ batch numbers start with a P and some people have assumed they've had Pfizer when they have actually had AZ, could this be a similar misunderstanding? Have you tried to Google the batch number to see if that helps to resolve anything?

Cookerhood · 24/10/2021 19:59

That's weird. It's definitely not licensed for under 18s.

Mine had Pfizer

Cookerhood · 24/10/2021 20:00

Someone's just clicked the wrong box or something but you need to make sure his medical.revirdscare correct.

BrambleyHedge · 24/10/2021 20:03

Ok - thanks. Sounds like an admin error (phew). Will get that corrected.

Have you given the consent? It's weird, AZ is not approved. Did you give consent to trial or something? Otherwise, it sounds really weird.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 24/10/2021 20:06

Only Pfizer is licensed in the UK for that age group.
Who was with him when he had it? With both of my dc, the person giving the vaccine clearly explained what vaccine they were having and we got a card with the type and batch number written on it.
No way would I have let them be vaccine with something that I was sure what it was.

BrambleyHedge · 24/10/2021 20:08

No I just did the bog standard consent form which came via school (which is where he should have had it a month ago - they ran out of time so didn't do yr11 then, and then came back this week when he was off sick). He was then booked in to get it at a vaccination centre).

Good point. Found the PIL leaflet in his pocket and it says Pfizer so sounds good. DH took him and just assumed he'd had Pfizer.

OP posts:
winterisaroundthecorner · 24/10/2021 20:12

The online consent for school clearly stated which vaccine they would get.
Same for the vaccine centre we went today, first thing they did was telling us which vaccine they get, with the leaflet.

Bonkerz · 24/10/2021 20:15

This was my daughters. Definitely chase it up

Well DH is clueless and DS thinks he had Pfizer so all good I think. Thanks everyone.

Just to add to the confusion, it’s not called Pfizer any more. It’s called cominarty. I thought they’d spelt community wrong on the signs!!

AppleButter · 24/10/2021 20:41

I am wondering why these vaccines are all so close to the expiry date?

Popfan · 24/10/2021 20:52

I've had the exact same email about my 13 year old, I've also emailed to clarify. The signs all around the centre said Pfizer. I'm wondering if they went to the same place? Initials of place S.M.??

BrambleyHedge · 24/10/2021 21:14

Hi Popfan - yes it is the same place

@AppleButter

I am wondering why these vaccines are all so close to the expiry date?
So they are used before they expire?
Cookerhood · 24/10/2021 21:28

So near? They still have over 2 months shelf life left. It only starts off with 9 months (I think).

Tryingtryingandtrying · 24/10/2021 22:56

Why would you assume admin error? I would chase this up urgently.

BrambleyHedge · 25/10/2021 13:44

They have replied and it was an admin error and he had Pfizer.
