Just that really.

Definitely feel in such a bad mood today and yesterday, and also quite low. Can mental health be affected by Covid? Has anyone else felt the same? Thanks

Yes, I believe I saw quite a shocking report several months ago with some quite alarming stats about mental health issues post covid. I'll try to find it.

Luckily, I did not experience this, but I believe it's a known issue so you're probably not imagining it!

Thank you. That would be helpful

Can't find the one I was talking about, but this might be worth a read. www.bbc.com/news/health-56650125

How ill were you? A bit of an odd question I know but I really struggled mentally for months and months after recovering from covid last October and the reason was not what you might expect.

For me (and my whole family) it was thankfully a very mild illness which lasted just under a week and to be honest I’ve felt worse with a hangover. After that experience I couldn’t help but feel so frustrated and angry that my life had been so limited and continues to be so limited for an illness that really was nothing to write home about and if I’d never heard of covid, I wouldn’t have thought twice about it.

I know that’s not the case for everyone but it did seem like most people I know had the same experience and all these endless restrictions and requirements to be vaccinated in order to travel and go to certain places in some countries continues to frustrate me and have a negative effect on my mental health!

Seriously @Lostinacloud? So when the hospitals were literally overflowing last winter and 1,000 people a day were dying, or when we were shown what was happening in India when Delta struck, you were sitting their thinking "this is so inconvenient"?

Lostinacloud · 23/10/2021 08:21

In total honesty, yes. It gave me a sense of perspective and I lost the fear that we were (and still are) being peddled.

ElephantandGrasshopper · 23/10/2021 08:40

Yes I felt very down for a while after I had covid. With hindsight probably because I was exhausted the whole time (and therefore not able to do anything other than work and sleep), and the fact that we had missed our summer holiday really got me down.

Tiredout123 · 23/10/2021 09:03

I wasn't well at all. Took it out of me I think. Double jabbed. Recovered now, but have after effects of sinusitis.

Real symptoms of depression. Not just a low mood but now disturbed sleep which is usually a warning sign of depression with me

Hmm yes I am feeling very low in mood at the moment (2 days of isolation to go!). I luckily haven’t been that unwell (bad cold) but the whole situation is so frustrating. I suspect for me it’s the lack of control / feeling of helplessness and I’ll feel better once allowed out but it has been a real slog and I’ve felt very alone / unsupported.

middleager · 23/10/2021 09:08

OP, I caught Covid 5 weeks ago and was laid up in bed with it for days.
I'm still struggling with some physical symptoms.
This includes sleeplessness and issues with depression/anxiety.

Persephonespip · 24/10/2021 15:29

I caught Covid in August and was in bed for a week; it took me weeks to feel anything approaching normal again and I’m still not right. I think it has exacerbated my poor mental health although part of that may be the backdrop to all this: 18 months + of pandemic, but also the fact my smell still hasn’t returned and it is really, really getting me down.

userxx · 24/10/2021 15:34

Nope, the only annoying thing is the loss of smell, not bothered about the loss of taste anymore. Can't stand not being able to smell though.
