Just dont meet anyone whose not double vaccinated, limit your social contacts, ask visitors to lateral flow before they come in the house and tell them to wear a mask.

But attend school where cases are rampant, no-one wears masks and local schools haven't vaccinated yet. (Thank god we're still homeschooling)

Oh and according to the governments last correspondence DS isnt critically extremely vulnerable anyway (but if he turned 18 tomorrow he would be).

Is it just me or does this all feel very very wrong? I'm getting whiplash with the volte faces

Did you get this today?

QuarantineQueen · 20/10/2021 14:34

Oh yes. CEV teacher here. How the government expect me to follow this advice but do my job I don't know (I do actually, they just don't care).

Fallagain · 20/10/2021 14:36

DH got it’s a few weeks ago. He had an email first. It coincides with the ending of furlough. Yy dont socialise with anyone who is double jabbed, except your children who have been in school with positive cases.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 20/10/2021 14:38

A poster on another thread has just suggested we separate ourselves from society. I thought they might be a troll but it looks like they're actually in comms at the DHSC...

Tigerwhocameforsupper · 20/10/2021 14:39

I don’t understand not socialising with people who aren’t vaccinated. From what I have experienced being vaccinated just stops you getting really ill, it doesn’t stop you getting or passing on covid at all!

Caramellatteplease · 20/10/2021 14:44

Yes literally dropped through my door today.

@QuarantineQueen if they were making any attempts to mitigate the risk in schools it might make some sense. My thoughts are with you. We're lucky in that DS has stayed relatively restricted anyway.

Do you think I can use this as leverage to get DD (15) her second jab? I bet not!

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 20/10/2021 14:48

Joking aside, this is the same as the email I got in late September when they dropped the CEV group. I never got a postal version so maybe they're just slow at sending them out.

Caramellatteplease · 20/10/2021 14:48

That's incorrect. There is evidence to suggest otherwise. And there has always been evidence to suggest viral load is important to degree of illness.

Yes definitely. This is setting disability discrimination back years

I think so, I got a similar email in September and a postal version yesterday, dated September 17th.

I didn't need the postal version, but I am overdue for a booster now, there are a lot of cases in my oldest child's schools and we have all been doing LFTs and PCRs this week as he's had symptoms.

DC is also immunocompromised and needs a second jab.

So I'd appreciate the resources and organisation going towards getting us the vaccines we are supposed to have, rather than useless mailshots.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 20/10/2021 15:00

It would have made sense to allow anyone who got a letter to opt in to email only updates. Would have saved money and trees.

I had my booster but haven't heard about a 3rd jab yet. Dd is due her 2nd jab next week. I need to chase that up. Loads of cases in both schools here.

Write to your mp and ask. Absolutely crazy!
I know of some primary schools classes that have 18 children off with Covid and nothing is being done at all!

Well quite. It's been quite an eye opener to see the number of people who will quite happily consign several million of the nation to perpetual separation from society because the majority must have no restrictions at all

@PastMyBestBeforeDate - you need to check if you qualify for a third primary (not all CEV do - they're for the severely immune suppressed) or if it's a 6month booster - beginning to fall due for group 4, whose first two primaries were about Jan/April

QuarantineQueen · 20/10/2021 15:20

@MoanaSarna that sounds like my school, except I'm secondary. Half of some classes were off with it during this half-term. Feel like I missed a bullet as none of the classes I teach had more than one off with it at a time.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 20/10/2021 15:21

Thanks nether I probably am in the group as dd is in the double jab 12-15 group. Even if they do it now my next treatment will wipe it out :(

Tricky if the CEV person lives with someone who has to go out to work in a public facing role.

I spoke to the person in charge of vaccinations at my DD's college yesterday. She let slip that the government has said young people won't be getting their second jab until they are SEVENTEEN.

My DD is summer born so that is ten months away.

I'm mentioning this simply because this doesn't seem to have been covered ANYWHERE in the press at all.
Phoned the guardian about it but no phone call back.

Presumably there are shed loads of people who don't care about young people or their families...I'm no longer shocked by that but wanted people on this thread to know...

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 20/10/2021 15:38

Indeed Haze. Also tricky if they live with school age children, especially those who are under 12, or indeed need any form of medical care.

Greyrootszerohoots · 20/10/2021 15:46

It’s no coincidence the shielding programme officially ended on the day the cabinet shuffle was announced and received zero news coverage.

Those who are still vulnerable, especially the immune compromised have been left behind.

Topseyt · 20/10/2021 16:09

I've had it too, in addition to an email saying exactly the same stuff about 3 or 4 weeks ago.

I wasn't added to the CEV list until February this year, and shielding was paused at the end of March. By the time I was added to the list I was already looking after a dying father and an increasingly disabled mother (neither with Covid) so have never shielded. It was impossible.

I'm double jabbed and my winter Covid booster is booked for 30th October. My mother and sister are also on track with theirs.

The letter is bollocks.
