Eldest child positive I'm scared!

For her age 17 had 1 jab, for my youngest age 12 (only family member who is unvaccinated due to age) and us who are double jabbed. Can't believe after all this time we are only in this situation now but I'm worried. She's caught it from a work colleague we assume. Just sniffly to start with and only got tested as had a very brief rise in temperature as it is not only guidance but work policy. Anyway got positive result today. She's since aching muscles but mainly ok. I'm just irrationally scared we are all going to get it. From surfaces she has touched etc. She is in her room 99% of time but has come out briefly to speak to us. Poor kid. She suffers with mental health too so don't want to shut her away but I darent hug her. Both me and dh work from home currently so can't escape the house. No real point to my post really I guess I just want to vent and get possible reassurance the rest of us could escape it!

We've just had it. 16yo dd got it first, then I did. DH didn't get it at all, despite not really distancing. It seems unpredictable, but hopefully you won't be too poorly even if you do all come down with it. It wasn't nice, but thankfully it was fairly mild for us.

When I tested positive dh and dd never did.
I didn't isolate myself from them and dd went to school.

Are you clinically vulnerable? If not and you're vaccinated, I really wouldn't worry too much. Even pre the vaccine, the government said for most it's a mild illness.

My 8yo and 16yo had it in September. They both isolated in their rooms, but I still went in to give the 8yo multiple long hugs a day (with a mask, but still…). I cleaned light switches/ taps/ the toilet flush every time they left their rooms. No one else caught it from them (2 other unvaccinated dc, me or Dh. We’re both double vaccinated but dh is also immunosuppressed so his vaccine is possibly less effective).
Another of the dc had it 3 weeks later. Again, no household transmission.

Op it's awful when it finally catches up with you. I've gone through it with both dc, one didn't isolate at all but I kept windows open, I tried not to speak to her closely face to face, had windows open and a fan on.

Second didn't catch it from the first.

Weeks later was struck down (none of us caught it from first dd), she was older so naturally spent more time in her room, windows open and so on but again we didn't get it m

My 2 and 8 yr old got it. You'd never have know much was up with them. My 5 and 6 year old, and DH and I didn't get it despite sharing cups with the positive kids, getting sneezed on my face, being licked by the 2 yr old and all cuddling on the sofa for hours.

That said I surprisingly wasn't anxious in the slightest. And was assuming I'd get it.

Why would you share cups with a covid positive person? Probably the most mental thing I've read on here.

My DS13 got it. He self isolated but we weren't too strict - still shared a bathroom though he had his own towels etc. It was very mild - mostly feeling tired for a few days, a slight headache on one of the days and a cough that cleared up after a week or so. I'd say he was fully better by about day 7 following a positive PCR. None of the rest of us got it.

My kids both had it and I didn't catch it from them, even though I had only haw 1 jab at the time. And they're young kids so there was absolutely no social distancing going on.

The chances of any of you being very ill are absolutely tiny now. 45,000 new cases a day and only about 50 deaths per day give a (very rough) mortality rate of 0.1% and the vast majority of those will be unvaccinated or extremely vulnerable. Given that you're vaccinated and (presumably) not vulnerable you really don't need to worry.

I should clarify. I did my best to separate food utensils etc but the little fellow is a nightmare for just picking up cups, bottles and glasses and drinking out of them. I realised he'd done it after another child drank again from their cup. Caught him licking the butter dish when positive so had to chuck it but I bet he did it before I noticed too. He also told me he'd drank from my bedside water after I'd had more.

My point was that it was ridiculous that the 4 of the rest of us didn't get it.

My eldest got it. No one else in house did. Despite me helping him with homework for 5 hours on same day positive LFT. Next doors twins got it but older siblings (all primary age) and adults didn't.
Other families they all get it.
You just can't tell.. And for most it's mild

My 7 year old ds had covid, asymptomatic. I anti bac wiped high touch areas twice a day but seeing as he could not isolate effectively and he was too young to make him isolate he didnt. No one else caught covid, and yes he shared cups with his little brother because its a drink and they are thirsty and help themselves and I can't police every move, oh and they also jumped into bed in the middle of the night, not much I could do about that either as I was asleep......didn't send anyone to school though, whole family isolated because of the lack of social distance. I honestly thought we would catch it but no one else did.

We caught it from my 15 year old, his sister was ill but did not test positive, neither were were really poorly. However me and my husband, we're very ill with, over 50s, both double jabbed, still ongoing problems 3 weeks later.

DD got it, it's just the two of us so didn't isolate, she accidentally coughed and sneezed over me and I didn't get it. She was ill but nothing worse than flu symptoms and barely touched her chest. She had a temperature and chills, headache, muscle aches, very sore throat, and cough, change of taste and tiredness and felt rough for 5 daysso unpleasant for sure but nothing major.

3 out of a household of 5 caught it here and I looked after all of them and didn’t catch it. Windows open and masks on when they left their rooms. I was going in and out of their rooms regularly and wore a mask. Didn’t worry too much at all about touching stuff or over cleaning because it’s mainly airborne and it was absolutely fine. The single jabbed teen had it slightly worse than the other two but only for a couple of days. DH was one who had it and I was sleeping next to him until he tested positive but was still ok. Try not to worry @1lifeliveitright.

Dd1 just had it and I was sure at least some of the rest of us would, but none of us did. We did pcrs at the start and end of her isolation time and lateral flows every day.

We did keeps dd2 home from school, but only because school supported us doing that, guidance is they have to go, so yes that is part of why it is spreading but what are people supposed to do?

Ds just had it and dh and I didn't. He pretty much stayed in his room and worse a mask when he came downstairs, we sat in the garden to eat and kept windows open. Shared a bathroom but slightly stepped up the cleaning not hugely though. All washed hands a lot. It's not a given you'll get it but I rememberber being anxious too.

Why is everyone still shaking in their boots about this? Are you vulnerable? You’ll catch it, feel ill, recover. Life goes on. This anxiety completely baffles me unless there is an obvious reason of vulnerability or living with someone who is.

I’ve just had it, shock horror I also shared food etc with my children, shared a bed, cuddled, kissed them. I wouldn’t dream of isolating from them for an illness that barely affects them.

They didn’t catch it & nor did my husband. Kids still went to nursery & school.

I couldn't isolate from DS when he had it. He was really poorly and needed looking after so was curled up on me for 20hrs a day whilst coughing, sneezing and being sick. I didn't catch it.

My dd currently has it. She’s 5. We can’t socially distance as she’s feeling unwell and wants cuddles and comfort I’m not going to deny her that. So far I haven’t caught it and I am testing daily, but if I do, I am fully vaccinated and it was worth it to comfort my dd when she’s unwell and doesn’t understand what’s happening and needs me.

Just like I slept beside her when she had noro when she was 3 to hold her bucket for her and lay beside her with chicken pox to stop her scratching, applied creams to her when she had cold sores in her eczema and cuddled her when she had hand foot and mouth and was in pain.

If she was older and understood I may have distanced more, but not if she needed me or it adversely affected her physically or mentally to do it.

My sister had it at the time living with family - all the adults did get it but they weren’t really isolating from each other (seemed pointless as only one bathroom!)) this was back in the day where everyone had to isolate for 2 weeks regardless. The two teenagers kept distance from the rest of them and never caught it (both boys quite happy playing Xbox in their rooms for 10 days!)

All 3 adults had cold type symptoms not to bad. Only my Dad who has other medical issues did need to go to hospital - but only for drip and antibiotics- out within 48hours. It was more down to the fact he hadn’t really eaten or drinking for days and a high temp that wouldn’t go down. But he would be like that with a cold his immune system is crap! & any bug he will get twice as bad.

I'd suggest still taking precautions in an effort to decrease the amount of virus you're exposed to - you might still get it but it would hopefully be easier for your immune system to deal with.

Wee DS brought it home, we all caught it. The unvaccinated DC had it very lightly, DH (fully vaccinated) was coughing, headache, sore throat, tired, but managed to work through most of it from home.

I (fully vaccinated, not vulnerable) ended up in hospital with it. I was a heck of a lot less ill than the unvaccinated in the hospital, but it was still a few days in hospital on steroids, 1.5 weeks on a virtual covid ward at home, and now 4 weeks since testing + I'm recovering but still unable to work.

DD1 had it, we took sensible but not insane precautions in the house. Dh, I and both other dc never caught it.
