2 adults, 1 child. All symptomatic. PCRs booked for the morning. Pic taken within correct time frame. I think it must just be a bad cold we all have? Any thoughts?

Perhaps you are seeing lines in front of your eyes *@vastgrandupgrade*

Previous poster is right, positives are unambiguous

That’s unnecessarily snippy Confused
FabricedeSauveterre · 17/10/2021 08:30

My DP had a positive PCR, the day before he had a negative lateral flow, the day after his PCR test a strong lateral flow positive but by 2 days after a very faint line on LTF. Yet he still had Covid/would have been infectious then, so I’m a believer in the faint line. There might have been a faint line on the previous LFTs if we’d looked closely enough!

toomuchlaundry · 17/10/2021 08:37

For those saying the line is unambiguous if positive, that is not what the instructions say. Hope some of you haven’t been ignoring positive results.

Whilst in this case I can't make out a positive line in the OP's tests your statement re unambiguous lines is incorrect.

Any line, no matter how faint, can be positive and it's why a PCR test is needed to confirm.

They work very similar to pregnancy tests whereby any very faint ,ine is classed as positive.

It's inaccurate to claim that only dark lines are positive. Even the paperwork which comes with the tests states that isn't the case.

TumtumTree · 17/10/2021 08:40

I agree that a faint line is still a positive and it's not always a strong line, but I can't see any lines in the photo the OP has posted.

WeBuiltThePyramids · 17/10/2021 08:42

They look negative to me but DD has tested positive this week on a PCR and has been really quite poorly, and her LFTs throughout (before and after the pcr) have been clear negatives. I don’t think you can really trust the LFTs at all unfortunately.

Northernsoullover · 17/10/2021 08:42

The top one I can see.

liveforsummer · 17/10/2021 08:55

I know plenty people who have tested positive for covid but only had the very faintest line on ltf tests and some who have ended up very unwell but ltf never showed positive. Wait for the PCR results

zebrarobot · 17/10/2021 09:01

Thanks everyone. Agree i think they are negative and so does dh. Symptoms have worsened overnight/this morning particularly in ds who has played outside all week with a friend (its been half term here in scotland - back to school tomorrow hence double checking with a pcr before sending). We've since found out that the ds friends mum has tested positive for covid so the chance is always there and best to rule out with a pcr. Younger ds and baby dd also symptomatic however having tested them before and experienced the distress it caused we will only pcr test them if our results positive. (As advised by a&e doctor who saw baby dd last time she was ill as it turned out to be a bad case of bronchiolitis.)

Will update with results

Why are people still doing lateral flows when they have symptoms? Lateral flows are for asymptomatic only. If you have symptoms skip the lateral flow and just do a PCR.

GorgeousGoldies · 17/10/2021 09:03

@Megan2018

I’ve had two clearly positive LFDs in the last 10 days and both PCR’s negative so there doesn’t seem to be any sense to it. I’d say they look negative, but mine was very positive and yet wasn’t….either more rogue testing centres, I have a new mutant variant, or the tests are useless….
It’s highly likely that you have had false negative PCRs. It’s virtually impossible to get a false positive LFT (only 3 in 10,000).
TacoTues · 17/10/2021 09:06

Are they flow flex?

I get very faint lines on the flowflex. Like your top picture.

Nothing on any others. Negative on all other brands and 2 PCRs.

But the same batch of flowflex my DH and DC all negative.

I think I must have some sort of weird protein that reacts with them a tiny bit 🤷🏻‍♀️

wheresmyhairytoe · 17/10/2021 09:07

I've reversed the image and no line on any of them.

There is absolutely no problem doing the ltf tests as long as a PCR is taken too. It's not that they don't work if there are symptoms - there's every chance it will show if people are positive and saves the waiting game
freesolo · 17/10/2021 09:11

My daughter tested positive with a PCR yesterday, her lateral flow was incredibly faint, I could only see it in a certain light. They are not always a definite line

Untrue (and unnecessarily snippy).

Faint lines are positive, as per the instructions.

I can also see a faint line on the top one.

Perhaps you should go back to lurking since your contributions are vastly incorrect

Positive - the presence of the test line (T) and the control line (C) within the result window, regardless of which line appears first, indicating a positive result. The presence of any test line (T), no matter how faint, indicates a positive result

So no, positives are not unambiguous

sparklecrazy · 17/10/2021 09:30

My lateral flow was still negative 2 days after my positive PCR 🤷‍♀️
