Do I have the virus? 2lateral negative, pcr positive

I was pinged on Saturday as a contact of someone who tested positive and was told to get tested.
I booked a home test but did lateral flow straight away which came back negative. The home test (PCR) i took on Monday. Whilst waiting for the results yesterday I took another lateral flow test which came back negative. Now I just received results from the PCR test that I took on Monday and it says positive?
I still have no symptoms.
Could it be that two lateral flow tests results are false? Or that the pcr test is false?
I am obviously self isolating as advised.

Yes you probably have it
The negatives were likely false and the pcr was likely true

Seedlipvshendricks · 13/10/2021 07:33

Yes you do I’m afraid. PCR much more accurate. Hope you continue to feel well

TeaTears · 13/10/2021 07:34

Yes you have it, PCR are more sensitive and pick up cases before symptoms. Especially as you were a direct contact, you can’t think anything other than you have it. I hope it’s mild for you

More likely false negs on lft.

Mindymomo · 13/10/2021 14:11

Yes, if PCR says positive then you do have covid. I hope you continue your isolation without symptoms.

Thank you all. Not sure why but I always thought that lateral flow tests can only be false positive not false negative.

I will continue to self isolate and all members of my household booked their pcr tests.

Lateral flows are very commonly a false negative. It is the false positive that is very unlikely . A positive PCR is positive, sorry OP.

AlexaShutUp · 13/10/2021 15:00

My lateral flows were all negative both before and after the pcr. I had classic covid symptoms so I'm in no doubt about the fact that the pcr was accurate!

LFT need a higher viral load to give you a positive, so take longer to turn positive and PCR will give an earlier positive.

yy PCR is the one. LFTs a total waste of time IMHO and I have stopped doign them (to be fair I am triple vaxxed and have also had covid).

I got multiple negative LFTs and a positive PCR in the middle. I deffo had it too - felt achey and tired for a couple of days. It was fine tho - the worst thing was the endless phone calls from Test and Trace.
