Loss of taste/smell - how long?

If you've had Covid and lost your sense of taste and smell, how long did it take to return?

Mine has been out for three or four days so far and it's an extremely odd experience. Literally nothing - no hint at all.

Weird isn’t it. My taste hasn’t completely gone but it’s extremely muted. Smell gone completely.

I’m on day 5 of it..

I think it massively varies. Some people it’s months. Some days 🤷🏼‍♀️

loveandroses · 11/10/2021 14:54

It can take weeks to come back fully sadly.

gerbo · 11/10/2021 14:56

On my last day (10th) of isolation. Taste came back slowly maybe three days ago, smell is hit and miss but there, just not as string as usual.
It's a very weird experience to lose these senses! All the best for your recovery.

gerbo · 11/10/2021 14:57

Strong, not string!

Turquoisesea · 11/10/2021 15:36

Both taste and smell have completely gone for me, such a weird experience. I’m only on day 2 of it going but I really hope it doesn’t last too long!

AgathaX · 11/10/2021 15:43

It was about a year for me.

elenacampana · 11/10/2021 15:45

They came back after a couple of weeks for me. My mum, sister and cousin have been without for over a year now!

peachescariad · 11/10/2021 15:48

DD had it at New year....lost both senses and they aren't fully back now but she had 6 months of absolutely nothing before gradually returning.
Still can't smell chocolate cake/brownies cooking...

Cindi85 · 11/10/2021 15:51

Taste came back after a few days, smell was a couple of weeks but has never come back fully. Some days I can smell fine, most days I can smell faintly. It has been 10 months.

thecatneuterer · 11/10/2021 15:58

Well it's been 18 months for me and my taste and smell is sort of back but all wrong (and horrible). I think there may be very gradual improvement but at this rate I'll be lucky if it's back to what it was in ten years from now.

xxlostxx · 11/10/2021 17:38

Over a year

MySaladDaysAreGone · 11/10/2021 17:43

13 days and just starting to come back but very faintly!

little0miss0mac · 11/10/2021 19:57

Gosh, such a mixed bag. Can I ask - if it's been a long time, were you unvaccinated when you got ill? (With the length of time some have been affected, it sounds like it could well have been caught before the vaccine rollout, for example). I wonder if that makes a difference.

OP posts:
Journeynotdestination · 11/10/2021 20:07

I’m 5 weeks on (double vaccinated) and it’s not completely back. Can get a sense of most things but can’t taste chocolate and only certain notes of my perfumes!

2boysand1princess · 11/10/2021 20:21

So weird how it affects us all differently. For me it never went completely. Food just tastes a little bland for about 2-3 days. Never lost it completely. However I feel it’s never been the same as precovid.

Bemba · 08/09/2022 10:50

Triple vaccinated
lost all taste and smell on day 3
now on day 8
can someone please tell me if I’ll ever get it back
i am so low

Bemba · 08/09/2022 11:15

need some reassuring if possible

Barrawarra · 08/09/2022 11:18

It’s most likely you will get it back. I found it hard too. For me it was 3-4 weeks and it’s now completely normal.

TiredyMcTired · 08/09/2022 12:27

I’m 3.5 weeks after positive test, double vaccinated and one booster. Lost smell/taste completely, get a mild hint of taste every now and again but otherwise nothing.

NearlyAlwaysInsane · 08/09/2022 14:38

It's been 7 months and although most of my sense of smell came back within 3-4 weeks, it has not come back fully.

Bemba · 08/09/2022 14:52

Thanks

Bemba · 08/09/2022 14:53

👍

bloomflower · 08/09/2022 14:55

couple of weeks here

tiger2691 · 08/09/2022 15:14

I believe loss and altered taste is less severe and prolonged for most people, with Omicron. I had Delta on November 1st last year, still not right but a fair improvement.

Bemba · 08/09/2022 17:36

Thanks
