Vaccinated but child with covid?

Hi everyone

Looking for experiences of this please. My eldest (7) tested positive for covid on Monday, symptoms on Sunday. So far the rest of us have tested negative. Just wondering if you were double vaxed and got covid in your house did you get it or not and if so after how long? I have some big commitments next week and am just panicking. We haven’t really distanced ourselves from him given his age other than not letting him into our bed in morning. Thanks

Both my children (10 & 6) had it and despite sharing a bed and being coughed etc on I didn't catch it. I did 3 PCRs and for what they are worth daily lateral flow tests. All negative. My DH was the same. We are both double vaccinated. I did an antibody test not that long before they caught it and that was negative. I do know others obviously where the whole house have caught it though. Just no way of knowing and I still have no idea how I didn't catch it!

My kids had covid and neither DP or I got it (double vaccinated) despite taking absolutely no precautions to try and avoid contact with the kids.

In fact little DC slept in bed with me for 4 nights as he felt ill! Lots of coughing and cuddling but I still didn't get it.

Those vaccines must be STRONG!

wrigglewriggles · 07/10/2021 19:14

My son, similar age to yours, tested positive on Sunday. The rest of us tested negative until a few days later. I'm fully vaccinated.

LivingNextDoorToNorma · 07/10/2021 19:16

My dc caught it just after turning 4, obviously we didn’t distance at all. Neither me or my husband caught it. Fingers crossed you all stay healthy!

Dd tested positive on Sunday, double vaccinated dh tested positive Wednesday

MarshaBradyo · 07/10/2021 19:24

Ds positive and I did a PCR as had symptoms

Turns out a regular virus. Really surprised, also coincidence to have at same time.

Dh negative too

There is a chance we’ve had it already asymptomatically

bigbaggyeyes · 07/10/2021 19:24

My dd is 13, tested positive for covid, 4 days later I started feeling rough, did a PCR test which also came back positive. My dh didn't get it tho and we continued to share a bed

Needanewadventure2021 · 07/10/2021 20:00

Double vaccinated, all my lateral flows were negative. I was symptomless. However I tested positive on a PCR. I would never have even suspected I had covid.
Me and my DS have been very lucky really. We haven't been bed bound. Though the body aches today/day 4 have been absolutely horrible.

MySaladDaysAreGone · 07/10/2021 20:04

DS14 tested pos, 5 days later DD9 tested pos, day after I tested pos (double vaxxed). Kids fine in 3 days, I had 2 days feeling ‘off’ 2 days with extreme fatigue and cold symptoms in bed, then better every day after that. From day 6 after test back to normal but without taste and smell!

Merryway85 · 07/10/2021 20:10

Thanks everyone, reassuring to hear some didn’t get it. In real life all I’ve heard of is it going around the whole house, fingers crossed the rest of us avoid it!

Same here. DC tested pos in the summer. We took no precautions / mitigation. Ate together sat on the sofa together. None of the double vaccinated adults in the house caught it.

TheVolturi · 07/10/2021 20:26

You might escape it. But if you're vaccinated the likelihood is you will be absolutely fine. Me and dh have just had it. We were rough for three days with high temp, aches and heavy cold symptoms. Then just felt a bit crap for the rest of the week. Despite this I managed to still tidy up, cook and look after 3 dc. If you get it, take regular paracetamol whether you think you need it or not. You'll be OK.

MyNameIsAlexDrake · 07/10/2021 22:00

My 9year old had symptoms on Sunday, a temperature, and tested positive with PCR on Monday. I started to feel ill on the Monday so did PCR on Tuesday which came back positive as did DHs. Both DH and I are double vaccinated. So really quick turnaround for us all testing positive here.

My 9year old and DH are both fine, barely a cough between them. I've been laid up a lot more with banging headache and blocked sinuses, but paracetamol has definitely helped. Yesterday I totally lost my sense of smell, my only real proper Covid symptom.

DockOTheBay · 07/10/2021 22:03

My small children had it. I had 1 vaccine at the time, didn't catch it. DH and Mum also didn't get it (both had 2 vaccines). You have a pretty good chance of avoiding it, or getting it asymptomatically so don't worry too much.

Latenightreader · 07/10/2021 22:07

My almost three year old caught it and I came down with symptoms a couple of days later. She caught it from my double vaccinated mother (I’m also jabbed). Was not well for a few days but recovered far quicker than my friends who had it when unvaccinated last year.

Howarewenotthereyet · 07/10/2021 22:55

DD 6 got it (asymptomatic picked up by chance), DH double vaxed AZ tested positive a day later, DD (4 months) got symptoms and tested positive 5 days later than dd1, me double vaxed Pfizer tested positive and symptoms 7 days after dd1.

Acerola · 07/10/2021 23:19

I tested positive four days after my son and my husband four days after me. Both me and my husband are double vax'd

Merryway85 · 08/10/2021 06:24

Got up this morning feeling a bit rubbish. Positive LFL…oh well at least the waiting game is over and hopefully it’s mild 🤞🏻

I hope you feel better soon Thanks

DC2 had Covid last November, with symptoms, none of us caught it. We were unvaccinated then.

Three weeks ago, DC2 caught it. He was symptomatic. I'm double vaccinated (in my 40s, AZ) and caught it off him, about a day behind him. We were both laid up in bed with it and had obvious symptoms.
DH (also 40s, double vax) and DC2 did not catch it.
So DH has avoided it twice now, even though he gave us all lifts on different days to the test centre, more than 15 mins away, and has been in the same house.

It varies. There does not seem to be a pattern as to the randomness of who gets it in the house and who doesn't.
