Whole family positive LFT but negative PCR

Hi! So son was told to take an LFT Monday as multiple kids on his football team tested positive for covid. He had a faint positive on LFT Monday & felt a bit coldy, his PCR came back negative the following day (Tuesday). Tuesday husband did an LFT and very clear bold positive, son did another and also very strong positive this time. Husbands PCR came back negative today! Yesterday me and my daughter both had positive LFT’s. We’ve all gone for repeat PCRs today so will see what the results are tomorrow.

In total we’ve done 8 positive LFTs all from different batches so I’m kind of thinking there is minimal chance they are all wrong. Also we are starting to develop symptoms now.

Has this happened to anyone else? It’s so frustrating and makes me lose faith in the whole testing process if PCR supposed to be more sensitive then LFT?

Two faint positive LFTs yesterday, went for PCR last night but that’s come back negative. I’m in the SW but far SW, not Bristol area. I’m isolating anyway and live alone/wfh so I’m just going to wait it out. Feeling headachey and a bit bunged up but nothing worse than that. Double jabbed too.

This is so common right now. People with text book Covid symptoms testing negative, but then often they test positive when they're several days into their illness (one woman I know was 10 days into her symptoms and feeling awful with absolutely classic Covid symptoms before she got a positive PCR!).

Just tested again and the line was barely visible. Maybe I had it last week and am coming out the other side Confused

That article is bobbins. If it were a statistical artefact then it would be spread randomly and evenly through the country not in clusters of people who have covid symptoms repeatedly testing positive on LFT and repeatedly testing negative on PCR.

I’ve read a few of these articles, what are the chances of all 4 of us testing positive on multiple LFTs throughout the week (all different batches) strong positives (see photo) we have symptoms and now lost sense of smell? If the 2nd lot of PCR tests come back negative I will be amazed!

We have just had the same situation. Also North Hampshire! Son had 5 positive LFD over 4 days but 3 negative PCR’s! This was just before the news of the investigation into this and PHE stated he didn’t need to isolate further. He was unwell with similar symptoms to his best friends who had confirmed covid a few days before.

Total madness.

Now waiting on a PCR result for his little brother who is unwell with fevers. I expect it should be positive but whether it is or not we will see?!

@mooity it doesn’t make sense! We posted some PCRs as i don’t trust the test centres anymore, they lost half of our results from wed! 🙄

I hope they get to the bottom of this fast or else we are all deep in the pool!

It's scary enough being CEV without testing being meaningless.

Update - as suspected we have all just had our 2bd PCR test and we are all positive!! So glad we isolated until the second test 🙄

Not sure it’s the same thing, but dd had a bad cold, most of her class has had this bad sinus cold thing going around. She also done her normal twice a week lft, very faint positive, done another which was negative, but we had a pcr done too which was negative. I’ve now gone on to develop this sinus cold thing, also had a pcr which was negative. We have non of the other covid side effects.
