Runny nose, sneezing, tickly throat all negative LFT

I had a flu jab Friday and woke Saturday feeling grim. Progressively over the weekend and today I’ve got more and more head cold symptoms. Itchy nose, runny nose, sneezing and tickly throat etc. No headache or fever.

I’ve done an LFT every day since Saturday, every one negative.

Should I do a PCR or accept this is just a cold?

OP posts:
BrownEyedSquirrel · 04/10/2021 19:24

Aren't they all expected side effects of the flu jab?

JelliedHeels · 04/10/2021 19:24

PCR should be done if you have symptoms.

Justwingingit2005 · 04/10/2021 19:24

From personal experience of LFTs......
One child positive LFTs lead to positive PCR.
Second child negative LFTs but PCR due to living with covid positive. Positive PCR.

Raffaello · 04/10/2021 19:26

I had a feeling I’d read that LFT were not that reliable.

I didn’t think you actually got flu symptoms from the jab though? Surely it’s coincidental?

I always get flu symptoms immediately following the flu jab. I had zero symptoms after my Covid vaccine but every year the flu jab knocks me out of it!

AccidentallyOnPurpose · 04/10/2021 19:43

Do a PCR. Odds are it's a cold. They still exist. There's a nasty one doing the rounds at the moment.

whymewhyme · 04/10/2021 19:45

You have a cold lol

jimmyhill · 04/10/2021 22:43

Other viruses are available

I’ve got exactly the same OP (though haven’t had the flu jab). LFT was negative but I’ve sent off for a PCR to put my mind at rest, as I’m meeting with elderly relatives this weekend.

tedsletterofthelaw · 04/10/2021 22:52

You have cold symptoms because you have a cold.

What would you think you had before covid? It's that.

HundredMilesAnHour · 04/10/2021 22:53

I had my flu jab on Thurs. Minor sniffles, sore throat on Fri & Sat. Assumed it was flu jab related, although I've never had side effects from flu jabs in a decade of getting it every year. Felt terrible on Sun. Did a lateral flow test given by my neighbour. (I ordered a postal PCR but it arrived minus the swab so had to re-order another taking days). Positive. Finally did a PCR test. Also positive.

Lots of people saying that the Delta variant presents as a cold in people who are double-jabbed. Certainly seemed to be the case for me. Flu jab was just a red herring.

Well yes, probably because Covid (in its current form) didn’t really exist before erm, Covid Confused Plenty of people have had the OP’s symptoms and have gone on to test positive for Covid unfortunately.

Interesting. Like OP I had flu jab Friday. Sniffles etc by Sunday. Today not feeling great. Sneezing a lot! Did LFT Sunday night and negative will do one in the morning. Assuming a cold though.
savagebaggagemaster · 04/10/2021 23:24

Op just do a pcr test.
That's the only way you'll find out if it's Covid or a cold.
Nobody on here knows if you have one or the other.

StrawberryFizz26 · 04/10/2021 23:25

I've not had the flu jab but had these exact same symptoms since Friday, went for PCR today and it was negative.

A bad cold is defo doing the rounds at the minute.

Exactly. Just do a PCR.

I caught my Covid at work. From the man sitting opposite me who thought he had just a mild cold so came into work as usual. Except it wasn't a cold, it was Covid. I had minimal contact with him but I still caught it. So did the man who sits next to him. The "cold" took 50% of our work team out.

Longdistance · 04/10/2021 23:30

Sounds like my symptoms. Feel like my energy has been zapped. I have a sore throat and my sense of taste has gone. I have to test twice a week, the LFT was negative yesterday, but booked a PCR test for 8am this morning at 4am as I felt so rough. I’m awaiting the results. Still feel awful 🤧

VanGoghsDog · 04/10/2021 23:36

Everyone I know has had heavy colds in the past two weeks, me included. Five negative LFTs, not Covid symptoms, so it's a cold.

You can only get a PCR if you have actually got Covid symptoms - new continuous cough; fever; loss of smell and or taste.

I had a raging sore throat for three days, stuffy headache for two, then knackered for two, then just snot for another three. Typical cold.

VanGoghsDog · 04/10/2021 23:38

I doubt the flu jab caused it, these are not flu symptoms anyway. More likely you coincidentally caught a cold a day or so ago. Or caught it at wherever you got the jab, from someone who had a cold.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 04/10/2021 23:38

Makes me laugh all these people just advising OP that it's just a cold. How the bloody hell do they know? DH and I have COVID at the moment. Similar symptoms. I had a negative PCR at first so possibly I also had a cold at first. A few days later I had a positive PCR (but negative LFTs).

YOU. JUST. CAN'T. TELL.

When will people learn this? Yes, it's cold and flu season. But symptoms of COVID are exactly the same. No-one's a mind reader. The only way to know is to get a PCR.

You can only get a PCR if you have actually got Covid symptoms - new continuous cough; fever; loss of smell and or taste. Not strictly true.

Anyway, most people who have a cold also have a raised temp. They might not be shivering like Tiny Tim but they will definitely have a slight temp.

Mara246 · 04/10/2021 23:43

I have similar symptoms - runny nose, waking up feeling as though someone has rubbed a chilli up my nostrils, sore throat, tired, coughing. Ordinarily, I would have written this off as a cold but as another household member had positive PCR last week (I had negative one the same day), I did a lateral flow which immediately showed a positive result followed by positive PCR.
