Ds had a cough and sneezing on Friday so I took him for a PCR covid test and it came back negative. Yesterday his cough worsened significantly his throat is sore and his temp is 38C this morning. Is day 1 of symptoms too early to test? Should I have waited? Should I get him retested?

I think you have to do the best you can, and make peace with that. No way I would be doing second PCR on my child personally. There are many other things which cause give a cough and fever, and you have a negative covid test, so would work on the basis that is one of these many other things.

We have shitty coughs colds and sore throats with raised temperatures and all tested negative. There are some other nasty bugs around.

itsgettingwierd · 04/10/2021 16:01

There is a nasty bug doing the rounds with very similar symptoms currently.

In my school those with covid have been less ill than those with the cold!

We have had cases and so everyone who has symptoms has had a PCR but most have been this cold and negative.

Hope the poor chap feels better soon

AlandAnna · 04/10/2021 16:14

You’ve tested for this current illness imo

I'm so glad you said that. I was thinking it was just me. Work are getting so pissed off!

I’ve had a horrendous cough, fever and headache this week and tested negative as well. As others have said, think there’s just some nasty bugs around atm

Porcupineintherough · 04/10/2021 21:08

There's no harm in testing again if you wznt to but, imo, if he was coughing from COVID last Friday it would have shown up on the pcr.

My Dsis family found that PCRs were negative on day 1/2 of symptoms and only got a positive on day 5.

FlatteredFool · 05/10/2021 11:38

Dd had similar symptoms but only very mild and she has now tested positive on a repeat PCR. It's weird. Ds and I have the more severe symptoms yet we are negative.
