School not vaccinating 15 year olds

Today our school invited years 7-10 to consent to vaccination. When we queried this (year 11) we were told the immunisation body had said year 11s could wait to be vaccinated through the public system at 16.

Surely this cannot be right. What about those who are not 16 until next spring/summer? This is the gcse year after all.

Why would all year 7s be invited when most of them won't be eligible as they're still 11, but literally no year 11s?

I've been tearing my hair out trying to get to the bottom of this. School is insisting that the decision is with the immunisation team. The immunisation team just gave an answerphone.

What is the situation for other year 11s?

Schools are not offering the vaccine to anyone.
The NHS is, via the school nursing service.
Schools are the venue and the providers of data. We only give what we're asked for.

So whose decision is it @MrsHamlet? Who has decided not to vaccinated year 11s in DDs school?

As you say the NHS is administering the vaccine but using school provided data.

No idea but it won't be the school. If we're asked for the details of the students on roll from y7-11 or whatever, that's what we'll give.
We won't say "actually we don't want you to do year 11 so you can't have it".
We've sent the data on, handed out and collected in the forms, passed them on, provided a space and scheduled the days we were told to schedule. That's our involvement.

I'm just so frustrated. The decision not to vaccinate year 11 15 year olds is wrong and against government guidance.

I'm wondering if the immunisation team have asked school to exclude those who are 16 this year ( ie before dec) and someone has misinterpreted that within school. The poster who said their school wasn't vaccinating those who were 16 before January made me wonder this.

It's the only logical explanation I can think of. Anyway, I'll probably never know. I just have to be hopeful that it gets sorted out and fast.

Thanks all for offering your thoughts and views.

My child is 16 before January (just) and is being included I would be disappointed if he was excluded and had to wait while all his classmates got vaccinated. If you're 15 on vaccination day you should get it with everyone else in my view. Anything else goes against government guidance that 12-15 year olds should be offered the vaccine.
