Covid recovery - sex painful

I thought I’d post here in case anyone has experienced similar. The two things may be completely unrelated but my gut feeling is that they’re not.

My bf lives several hours away so we don’t see each other that often. The last time I had sex with him was just as I was coming down with covid but at that point was testing negative on the lateral flows. Everything was fine, no pain during sex.

Whilst I was ill there was one day when my gums were bleeding loads when I brushed my teeth, there was blood literally dripping into the sink, but it just happened once. I looked it up and covid can apparently cause bleeding gums, and it hasn’t happened again so I didn’t worry too much.

Now it’s been 2.5 weeks since I first became ill, and I feel a lot better although still very tired. My bf is visiting at the moment, he’s been here for a couple of days. We’ve had sex 3 times and each time it’s been really painful for me. The first time I didnt bleed, although it was painful, yesterday morning afterwards I noticed afterwards that I was bleeding quite a lot (definitely not a period). The bleeding stopped after sex. I mentioned the bleeding gums thing because I have in the past bled during/after sex because I have a sensitive spot on my cervix which has been known to cause bleeding in the past if I have enthusiastic sex with someone with a large penis, although it hasn’t happened for about 10 years. So I’m wondering if like the gums, covid has caused this to be an issue again?

We had sex again last night, no bleeding but still just as painful.

Like I said, the timing could be a coincidence but it’s really odd that prior to getting covid sex was not painful at all, and now it is. I was hoping it was a one off but it doesn’t appear to be. Any advice appreciated.

You will definitely need to book a GP appointment. Could be nothing but please get checked.

Whathefisgoingon · 25/09/2021 09:33

Haven’t heard of anything like this due to covid. Definitely see the GP.

Hatsuma · 25/09/2021 09:35

Yes I will contact the doctors next week, it’s like the quest for the holy grail trying to get anything from them at the moment but I’ll give it a go.

They would hopefully see you straight away for those symptoms. As I say, i it could be something si mple but you must get checked.

Hi there! First time posting anything and just wondered if OP has resolved the painful sex issue. Was it attributed to covid. I'm 2 weeks post covid and had sex for first time since being poorly last night.

I've never ever had painful sex before. But, it was uncomfortable during and afterwards I had a burning sensation for quite a while afterwards.

I of course will contact my GP if it happens again (as may just have been a one off) but, just wondered if your problem had resolved. Smile

Well my post-COVID issues are urological rather than gynaecological - urgency, frequency and nocturia - and there is evidence building up of a link - so I wouldn’t exclude anything.

This is the disease that keeps on giving. Very wearing.

Sorry - I didn’t mean to divert the thread. It’s sort of linked because for a long time I thought my symptoms were gynaecological (discomfort rather than pain) rather than urological. I have now had to give up penetrative sex, which is very sad, and atm I can’t even bear to be touched. A bit heart breaking really. Have been married 25 years, post menopausal 12+ years, and all this is new, following what I thought at the time was a relatively mild dose of COVID - lost taste and smell for 8 days, fatigue, temperature, but no respiratory symptoms at all.

Chummy21 · 22/12/2021 17:46

@Figmentofmyimagination that's really interesting. I woke up this morning with UTI symptoms rather than sexual as I thought previously.

I'm picking up antibiotics tomorrow so hopefully that will help....?

My covid symptoms were mild but it seems everyday brings something new. Are you having any sort if treatment or help?
