Has anyone who has had Long Covid, had Covid again, a 2nd time?

I know plenty of people who have had Covid. Hardly anyone who has had Long Covid. I myself had Covid March 2020, and then Long Covid for the rest of 2020.
I somewhat assumed I would get Covid again this year, but despite going out and about as much as I could within the rules, I have not caught it again.

I have obviously read of people who have had Covid a 2nd time, but I am not sure I have read, or know anyone, who has had Covid after Long Covid.

Hence my question.

I perhaps should qualify that by saying I have not been in too many crowded unventilated places.
Shopping, meetings, swimming, hotel yes. Long train journey, once. Cinema, nightclubs, no.

I know loads of people who've had Covid and only one person who got long Covid. But yes, that one person did get Covid again this year after having long Covid last year.

No, sorry, I got that wrong. She didn't get Covid again, but she had a very bad reaction to the vaccine which set her recovery back. Sorry for misleading info above.

I had covid in March 2020, then long covid through the rest of the year. I haven't caught covid again (yet!).

Op, I got covid 2020, diagnosed long covid, then have had covid 3 times since with negative tests in between. Most recent with delta was not well for 5 days. But it did restart some of my old symptoms that had cleared, such as back and chest burning and central chest pain. I'm also knackered every day again which had improved somewhat.

Yes me. First got COVID march 2020, long covid ever since. Second COVID infection Dec 2020.

I had covid April 2020, long covid for quite a while (gradually went away), jabbed March 21 and May 21 with quite a bad fluey feeling over following days/ weeks on first jab (consistent with others who’ve had covid).

I haven’t had it again.

Don’t think that proves anything but that I’ve been lucky!

I only know 2 people with long covid. Both have had covid again since diagnosis.

I read recently that many instances of people catching covid again weren’t actually the case. Getting covid twice isn’t currently a big worry. Apparently.

I had Covid March 2020 which turned into long Covid. I work in a school and have had lots of exposure to Covid since but so far been lucky and not caught it again (yet).

Had Covid March 2020 and it was really bad but not hospitalised. Long covid very bad until July(ish) when given steroids. Then cyclical long covid getting better each time through till January/Feb 2021 and thought I was recovered!

Vaccinated 1st dose March 2021. Triggered long covid symptoms again.

Caught covid again days before 2nd dose due end of a may 2021. Much milder 2nd time round. Long covid again now. Not as crippling as first time, some symptoms different, but definitely bad again.

So yes, had it twice, long Covid triggered each time in contact with covid (inc vaccination). Still waiting on an echocardiogram this time before I can get steroid treatment or second vaccine. And still not seen a long covid clinic but was referred a long time ago.

@sheworeyellow It was definitely the case of having it twice for me as the second time it was confirmed as delta variant and that wasn’t around when I had it the first time.

Yes me. Got covid early March 2020 was ill most of last year. Got noticeably better around April this year. Then we all got in again in August. I wasn't as ill as I was the first time, but I have been pretty exhausted since. Have started to feel better in the last 2 weeks though

I have just been diagnosed with long covid despite being unaware of previously having covid and I have never had a positive test. I have had awful mucus with constant breathlessness, wheezing and cough for 6 months. Previously fit and healthy with no relevant medical history. Absolutely floored me and I can't even climb the stairs without wheezing. Can I ask the long covid sufferers what your symptoms are?

@BLACKTUESDAY1 symptoms vary greatly because "long COVID " covers people w organ damage as well as people whose symptoms cant be explained (suspected immune system effects).

So I have some loss of kidney function but also some neurological effects (burning skin, pins and needles, internal tremors) which I first experienced when I had COVID, never before. These come and go, but flare up if I get sick with anything.

My dh has a hoarse voice/cough that recurs every month or so.

My next door neighbour has lung damage (and his case was considered mild at the time).

A lot of people report fatigue and breathlessness as their main symptoms.

@blacktuesday1 first time round my long covid symptoms were mainly terrible breathlessness, heart rate weirdness and the worst joint pain I’d ever experienced.
This time round it’s fatigue, brain fog, different weird heart rate and only if I’ve really overdone it tremors. If suffering from a cold or something else, I’ll get joint pain. No breathlessness at all.

The symptoms of long covid are so varied aren't they? I have been so unwell over the last 6 months it has severely affected my life. It's only now they are saying long covid. I have been on all sorts of medications, inhalers and sprays. It's the inability to take a deep breath and the constant coughing up that is awful. I can't even climb the stairs in one go. It really isn't socially acceptable to go anywhere and keep coughing. I am being referred to the long covid clinic and have just been started on montelukast so really hoping that'll help. I feel so sorry for everyone with the other symptoms and organ damage which sounds awful and scary. I hope everyone gets the help and support they need xx

Sorry for not replying sooner. I have visitors staying, and didnt recheck since last time I posted.

I had fatigue[slept for 12 -17 hours for months], brain fog, occasional heart thumps/fast speed, and blood issues[several different ones].

Looks like, from the replies, having Long Covid is not a cast iron guarantee of not getting covid again.
Worth asking though I thought.

First vaccination exacerbated all symptoms but 2 nd vaccination - no change. All much improved (since Christmas last year) except the tinnitus and shortness of breath. Back at work (part time) since beginning of May. Badly overdid things at work one week and had a relapse with 2 weeks off in August.

I’m not sure I remember what it feels like to be well 🤷‍♀️. But at least I’m here and there’s always hope!

Oops! Forgot to say I haven’t had it again yet. Sent a blood sample to the government antibody testing about 6 weeks ago which showed antibodies so that’s something.

First vaccination exacerbated all symptoms but 2 nd vaccination - no change. All much improved (since Christmas last year) except the tinnitus and shortness of breath. Back at work (part time) since beginning of May. Badly overdid things at work one week and had a relapse with 2 weeks off in August.

I was wondering how you're doing now? I had Covid very mildly about 6 weeks ago now and though it wasn't bad in itself, I got tachycardia from about day 10 and that is still more or less with me (it comes and goes, and I think it helps that I'm not freaking out about it as much. I'm on beta blockers for it but don't feel the need to take them too often).

But I also have tinnitus, which I've never had before unless actively ill, and horrible joint pains - knees and hips in particular! It's hard to tell if this is just my age (48, peri, arthritis in the family) or an after-effect from Covid but I'm noticing a lot of people complaining about joint pain now. It's so bad I can't get comfortable in the evening, sitting down. Can't cross my legs, can't really put them up on a stool. Thankfully lying in bed is ok.
