Everything tastes weird! Can anyone help/sympathise?

Started with fever Sunday, pcr test positive.

Wasn't too bad on taste side of things initially then yesterday certain food and drink tastes either super salty or super sweet!

One item somehow manages to be both (a drink) it was like drinking a very strong rehydration treatment! Disgusting!

I'm now at the point I need to take a wee taste of something before preparing it as a snack or meal so I can avoid the ones where this is happening.

Anyone else had this and what foods/drinks were ok?

At the moment I'm on plain bread and water! Occasionally a very bland soup.

We've not tested positive yet but lost taste and smell but can taste sour and tells things are sweet.

Sourer versions of fruit seem to be better like green grapes, lemon, lime.

Plain yoghurt wasn't too bad but then I was nearly sick after so maybe not the best idea.

Jacket potato wasn't too bad but very tasteless.

Chicken korma tasted of nothing.

I am drinking lemon juice with water and that tastes better as its not plain.

Sorry to hear you have covid, hope you fell better soon.

I also had a salad on grounds if I can't taste anything I may as well eat healthily and at least that was good for texture but pretty tasteless - things like raddish, sweetcorn, garden salad, prawns. Cheese I could taste but tasted like perfume, OK but bizarre.

Ds is the same a month on ,he's getting really fed up of it.

Cheese tastes like soap! No idea what that's about!

I normally hate plain water but it's the least offensive drink at the moment. I have fresh lemon and lime juice in might try a splash in water.

I tried a teeny bit of Quorn deli slice earlier as that's normally quite bland, literally tasted like I was licking pure salt!

The amount of food I'm gonna be wasting cos I can't eat it is heartbreaking, freezer is full

I have jacket potatoes in freezer may try them - but with what?! Butter and Mayo taste salty cheese tastes soapy...

I'm starving!

My smell and taste vanished completely. I'm a month on from positive PCR and certain foods taste different now, cheese is one. V annoying!

My DDs test just came back positive. I was just self isolating anyway but will get tested - DH was negative though fairly certain now that was an error.

Yes I have same with cheddar cheese and also I feel sick after with some things so anything creamy isn't great. We had beans and cheese on jacket, could mildly taste the beans, can't say I would essentially recommend it but was slightly less bland. I have not tried salty things but heard some people can taste that though don't want a high salty diet but maybe will try something like smoked salmon or tuna.

Tried crisps - just taste salt
Mango yoghurt with mango pieces - could taste it.

Samosas - no taste
Onion bhaji - no taste
Mango - could taste though milder
Pineapple juice and coconut milk - no taste
Lemon squash - can taste lemon

Cough medicine tasted the most and the best Grin I find if I blow my nose a lot it helps a little.

My dd said her banana tasted spicy! Son said bread tasted like cardboard!

DobieGrayshark · 21/09/2021 09:15

My DD who was a cheese fanatic can’t eat it since testing positive.

I lost all taste and smell with Covid. I couldn't eat, the feel of food in my mouth that I could neither taste of smell was disgusting and made me physically sick. I stuck to lemon juice for about 5 days until I got a little taste back.
