What happens if you catch covid while on holiday abroad?

We’re toying with the idea of going abroad (Renting a house in Italy) but the worry about what happens if you catch covid while you are away is putting me off.

Has this happened to anyone? What do you do if you can’t return home? Where do you stay?

@Yellow85

I know someone who was positive on holiday, just got their friend to take the pre flight test and flew home. Hence why I would not be getting on a flight anytime soon.
I'm not sure how this scenario is different to getting on a long distance train in this country or sitting next to someone in an office. Pretty sure there are a fair few covid positive people going about their daily business either without knowing or in some cases probably in full knowledge.

@Frazzled2207 I think the only distinction is that getting on the plan is through choice. Where’s as going to the office/commenting is not.

For me I mean. Not everyone travels abroad through choice!

If you pop onto the Barbados Tripadvisor forum there are some horror stories about being carted off to quarantine (due to numbers getting Covid you have to roomshare).

In Europe I think isolation/quarantine requirements are usually decided at a regional level for each country. I don't think you can assume that you'll be able to stay in your hotel or rental. It is important to check whether your insurance covers just the sick person's extra costs or that of other 'well' members of the party who might also have to prolong their stay.
