After a positive covid result, can you test again?

Hi

My daughter currently has covid so is isolating. If say in a month's time she had the signs of a cold/cough etc would she be able to do another PCR as I have read someone she may test positive up to 3 months after having covid. I am not sure how this will work with school.

Thank you.

I think it is unlikely she would contract Covid again that soon. Wouldn’t she have some immunity for a while. I was also told pcr could give false positive for 3 months after infection.

I totally get what you mean OP and I’m also worried about this as my son had Covid last week. If he gets a cough in a months time and school send him home I wouldn’t want to do a PCR as I’ve also read it can show positive for up to 3 months. That could mean another 10 days isolation when he’s not actually got it that time it’s just showing positive from previous infection. Hopefully someone else will come along who can tell us more.

Guidance is that you shouldn’t re-test with a pcr within 90 days of a positive result.
Recovery from covid is counted as the same as double jabbed etc

I was part of a trial when I had covid & I continued to test positive for 9-10 weeks after my initial test. But then 3 months after that, I had no antibodies at all! 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’d have a chat to your school & see what their guidelines are. Official guidance is not to test for 90 days post initial test..

Don’t test for 90 days after the original positive test date. Otherwise you could get a false positive due to dead virus that’s not longer infectious but still picked up by pcr. I withdrew my kids from the back to school testing for this purpose (but will reinstate them after the 90 days has passed).
