Flying back from France - best way to test?

OK so I don't think I'm a complete idiot but I'm finding it a little difficult to figure out what I need for my trip to France in October.

  • I am fully vaccinated so just need proof of that on the NHS app and don't need to test before flying
  • I have ordered my day 2 test for when I return home and have a confirmation number
  • I know I need to get tested in France to be able to fly back. There is a test centre at the airport. Should I book to take a test when I arrive as I'm only staying 2 days (and walk over from arrivals to departures)? But what if my flight is late and I miss my appointment? Or do I try to find a place to test me in the village where I'll be staying (not Paris so might not be easy to find)
  • Any other requirements I might be missing?

Thank you for any advice you can offer.

You can buy antigen LFTs that you can take with you and log the test result before coming back.
There is a declaration that you need to fill in to declare that you have no symptoms and haven't come into contact with somebody with COVID in the last few days. You can download one on-line.
Don't forget the passenger locator form for the UK which needs to be filled in before your journey home.

I need this clarified too. Am going by EuroStar next week for 2 nights, do I test for my return before I leave? And can I just take a regular LFT with me for that. Or is it something fancier. Or do a I go to a chemists once there?
So confused!

It’s permissible to use the result of test before leaving the UK to cover your return as long as it’s within it’s period of validity - this from UKgov:

“Taking your test in the UK before travel-

If you are returning to the UK within 3 days, you can use the result of a COVID-19 test that you take in the UK before you travel. You must use a private test provider for the test and not an NHS test.

The service on which you will arrive back in the UK must set off for the UK within 3 days of when you took the test.”

www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-testing-for-people-travelling-to-england

Not being in the UK I’m not sure about how self administered LFTs work OTOH I do know it is certainly very easy to get walk in tests done at many Pharmacies here but I appreciate it might not be something you’d want to do on a very short stay.

Thanks very much this has been really helpful. I think I'll order a test to take with me - I have free roaming on my phone so it will be easy to do the video call. However I won't be able to print anything out while I'm in France - I assume this is OK.
