FFS I’ve got covid again

Here’s my previous thread which ended with my coughing up blood and needing an ambulance twice when I caught covid as a teacher last year.
Back to school on the 1st sept and guess who caught covid again straight away?!
I think I need to leave teaching, literally not one union or leader or government member has talked about the level of risk for teachers. We have no social distancing, no ventilation and no masks this term.
Double vax’d, didn’t save me from catching it but I’m really hoping it will at least save me from hideous symptoms this time.

I’m sorry you have caught this again & hopefully you’ll feel less tired soon.
Teaches are so vulnerable to catching this and other bugs at school as they’re surrounded by unvaccinated children with little or no protection. We had an assembly today, over 120 pupils, all the staff, squeezed into a small hall with the windows that only open a fraction-singing away at top volume.
We don’t get sick pay at my school, so I expect people will work even if they’re ill.

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 07/09/2021 23:13

That's interesting. The only known cases we've had transmitted in school so far , through the whole thing, were staff to staff too.

We were in for in INSET on the 1st. Teacher A tested positive the next morning on an lft…her jobshare tested positive 4 days later.

curlymom · 07/09/2021 23:42

Geez sorry you got it again. I hope the vaccine really is effective and symptoms are milder.

I’m a teacher and students return tomorrow. Feeling apprehensive. Husband has cancer and radiotherapy soon. It’s a time fo reflection in this profession for sure. We had the whole hall full for inset too.

Mickarooni · 08/09/2021 00:18

I’m sorry you’re poorly. :( What a rubbish start to the term.
Any headteachers or senior management who thought massive in person inset days were a good idea need their heads examined! I have a few teacher friends who had virtual training for inset days or training in small groups. It seemed to work better and they felt at least there was some care shown for their well-being.

illuyankas · 08/09/2021 09:23

I'm so sorry. I think those in favour of school opening without any mitigation will know soon, that even though children may not get ill, teachers will, and it will affect children's education.

MooPointCowsOpinion · 17/09/2021 18:11

My isolation finished today!! Yay!
No masks, no social distancing, no bubbles when I got back into school today and several teachers and nearly 50 kids off with positive cases.
Push for mitigations in schools please! How many of those kids will have long covid or complications after this? Some are very poorly…!

I am so sorry this happened to you.

Runningshorts · 17/09/2021 20:25

Wow, you've had a tough time. It's so strange to read your previous thread as I was ill like that in March 2020, it took me right back..
How were you this time? Hope you're ok.

Lushmetender · 17/09/2021 20:27

Moopoint! Yay!

MooPointCowsOpinion · 18/09/2021 12:30

@Runningshorts so sorry you went through that too. This time was ok, I was tired for a few days before I tested (blamed start of term but I think it was more than that!) and then had a sore throat for 2 days. Other than that just 8 more days of boredom, which I happily accepted given how awful it was last time!!
Thank goodness (and science) for the vaccine!

@MooPointCowsOpinion, glad it went better this time.

Tinydancer321 · 18/09/2021 12:40

Im so sorry I hope your feeling better soon! I bet a pound to a penny none of the kids have been off with a Covid case 🤦🏼‍♀️.

Bookworm65 · 18/09/2021 13:55

Sorry to hear you've been ill again, OP. Four of my Year 6 class are off with covid, one of whom came in whilst waiting for a pcr result (which I know is allowed). I have continued to wear a mask but I'm one of very few staff to do so. I am double jabbed but also CV and really worried about catching it. I do think the risk to school staff has been underplayed.

Philandbill · 30/12/2021 14:14

@Bookworm65 new data shows that you were right. www.tes.com/magazine/news/general/school-staff-more-likely-catch-covid-other-workers
