Hi so my son got a cold 12 days ago. Bad cough very horrible one, we did pcr test also lft test all negative. Hes a lot better but still coughing a little and very chesty when he does cough. His first day in reception is tomorrow. I've emailed school but not received a reply so probably will have to call tomorrow. Do you think he would be allowed to go tomorrow?

If you had a negative pcr test and the cough is the same one then yes, he should be allowed in.

Brilliant thank you. Really appreciate it. I. New to it all so was a bit worried. Thanks

Yes it should be fine in line with guidance as he has had a negative test and it's the same cough.

If it had only been a lateral flow they might have insisted he go for a pcr before coming in

Frazzled2207 · 06/09/2021 14:19

yes I would just make a point of telling the teacher 'he has a cough but just so you know he had a pcr and it was negative'.
i doubt they'll bat much of an eyelid tbh, at reception the kids are coughing and snotting all over the place. Not great, but the vast majority will not have covid.

I don't think the school will have a problem if your ds has tested negative. I always make the teacer aware my dc has a cough/cold and had tested negative just so they know.

Hi, we work on the basis of if a child needs medicine before school to get them through the day then they should be at home. If he is fine with just coughing occasionally then that should be fine.

Thank you so much everyone. Hes absolutely fine in himself happy and playing no fever or anything. Just coughing a bit and snotty , but he can and does clean his own nose he hasn't had medicine for the last few days. So hopefully everything will be fine I will call on the morning just to make sure they are aware. As we di t see teachers we drop the kids off at the steps and they walk up by themselves. Thank you so much

If he's well enough in himself and you've had a negative PCR he should be fine to attend school, just mention the negative PCR to the teacher at drop off in case they pick up on him coughing.

I hope he has a lovely first day in reception
