Convincing the antivaxers otherwise?

Anyone had any success at this or have any resources they would care to share?

A friend is driving me nuts with all the complete tosh she keeps sharing on FB. 🙈

Said like a true conspiracy theorist
They are always based on 'fact'

Ridiculous post @hamstersarse

As @DumplingsAndStew has pointed out, the HART chat logs were leaked (as they didn't bother password protecting the account and anyone can join.)

You literally have the exact statements made by HART members discussing the best way to put people off vaccination including by spreading rumours about the vaccines causing COVID, leading to infertility, and cancer, for example.

DumplingsAndStew · 01/09/2021 11:55

Based on the two replies from familiar names, following my previous comments, I'm taking the advice I'd give someone in the OP's position, and not engaging any further.

@DumplingsAndStew I agree with you for what it's worth. Fucking sick of being called a "COVID denier" "conspiracy theorist" or "anti vaxxer" just because I question what is being fed us by mainstream media. And I've got both fucking jabs against my better judgment but my job was in jeopardy. Not travelled abroad much as I'd like to

Just ignore her and don't spend so much time on Facebook with people you are not interested in, do something else

Siameasy · 01/09/2021 17:21

Leave her to it. I don’t think their minds will be changed unless something happens to them personally, it’s just how people are.

PopcornMuncher · 01/09/2021 18:16

How about you do you and let her do her?

XenoBitch · 01/09/2021 18:17

Unfollow/snooze on FB. You wont convince them. If someone is at the point of sharing on FB, I consider them already far too gone (and that applies to everything, not just anti-vax etc).

lljkk · 01/09/2021 18:42

My cousin is generally anti-vacc but decided to get covid one.
Family has made ruckus over anyone not getting covid jab but ignored for 10 years his general anti-vacc sentiments (for his young children).

I'd be more worried about no tetanus among the small children, yet nothing matters but covid to the family elders.

YeOldeNameChange · 01/09/2021 18:50

I’ve noticed that when people set their stall out with an unpopular view, even when it becomes apparent that they’re wrong they will simply dig in further and will look for or fabricate reasons to support their original view

For instance I had Covid, double jabbed and I was quite ill. The non-vaccinated amongst our family, you would think, would panic and think “shit, she’s quite young, fit and slim AND double jabbed and was still quite bad maybe I should get the jab”

Nope, they became more entrenched because they couldn’t be seen to back down. They started to imply that I was just tired it wasn’t actually Covid, I had simply overdone it or I’d caught another illness on top of Covid.

PopcornMuncher · 01/09/2021 19:09

Maybe the fact that you had it so badly despite having been double vaxxed was not a good advert for it? Although double jabbed myself, I can see that point of view

Yes I can see that they would say that as it confirms their stance Some of my relatives have conveniently deduced from somewhere that they “were told” the vaccine stops you getting it
shouldistop · 01/09/2021 20:10

Why would you try to convince her? If it's annoying you reading the posts then just hide them.
