Has anyone done it?

Was the holiday different as a result of covid? How was airport etc and where did you go?

We are going to canaries in September so curious to know.

I really don't understand why you want to argue with me with your stupid passive aggressive little emoji.

It isn't about me. It is about people having the information they need to make an informed decision.

I couldn't give a flying fuck that you don't agree with my informed decision. I'm willing to risk a 3 k holiday bit not a 11k one.

Marni83 · 25/08/2021 18:02

I don’t agree or disagree

I was just confused! You said important of being informed and yet you are informed about the grim Greek quarantine hotels but still proceeding.

So I didn’t really understand. Do your research but still go even if looks “grim”

Movinghouseatlast · 25/08/2021 18:02

And yes, maybe I do need a holiday. Maybe my mum died 6 months ago? Maybe you should think about the circumstances people have before getting nasty with strangers you don't know on the internet eh? But sounds like you enjoy it.

Marni83 · 25/08/2021 18:03

Yes you made an informed decision
But the decision is baffling because you are “informed” that it’s grim
I was trying to rally the two opposing statements!

Marni83 · 25/08/2021 18:04

You sound like you’re on the edge

Good grief

I really have no pinion. Each to their own.
I was confused
And still am

But enjoy. Goodness know I think you need the break!

The difference that people are failing to get, between travelling to Barbados and travelling to Greece, is that in Barbados you have to test again on arrival. That's everyone, not just a random few. Plus, Barbados do contact tracing from the plane. So basically you can be fine when you leave, test negative etc, and then a day into your holiday you can be slung in COVID jail. This can't happen in Greece.

Do your research people, before you start being twats and assuming you know better.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 25/08/2021 19:22

Oh, and there's obviously the big difference in flight time to consider. More time potentially spent next to someone who believes that masks are worn on chins.

@chocolatesaltyballs22

Or should I say

@Movinghouseatlast

Grin
Watapalava · 25/08/2021 21:45

Greece also test on arrival and do contact tracing

Less so than Barbados but still...

Spain doesn’t do either which is why I went there!

Do they really? I stand corrected. I swapped Barbados for Spain for our upcoming holiday. Who needs to be pinged on their hols.
Watapalava · 25/08/2021 21:58

Exactly! I was desperate for Greece - been wanting to go the last couple of years so this was gonna be ‘the year’🤣 but then I read they do random testing and tracing from flight and I thought ‘can’t be arsed with that’ after all the stress of having kids tested pre departure etc

So went Spain

Once there I knew holiday guaranteed at least 😎🤣

Tbh I find the wording of the FCO odd. It says if someone else tests positive on your plane you may also be asked to isolate.

I've a cousin who works at a large hotel chain and so far you have only had to quarantine if that person is you or in your party. That's the govt guidance.

You get contacted by the holiday company or airline and advised to test/watch out fir symptoms but you've not to isolate.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 26/08/2021 06:10

So I guess that's where the may comes in.

This contains an excellent post highlighting the differences between Greece and Barbados protocols.

Greece aren't testing everyone on arrival, just a few randoms. That said, not one person on our flight to one of the Greek islands was pulled out of the queue for one.
Movinghouseatlast · 28/08/2021 19:28

Greece only do random tests at the airport and no longer contact trace from the plane, although they did last year.

Are you sure about this? I’m meant to go to Corfu in a few weeks’ time and am worried I’ll end up in a quarantine hotel because of someone on the plane testing positive…
LAlady · 28/08/2021 19:57

Just back from Corfu. Also was there last summer too. Completely worth it.

The test to return can be done in clinics there - €20 for a LTF and results emailed to you. Fast and efficient. PCR when we got home went off in the post. Very simple and easy.

Forms to complete and documents to upload are half an hour out of your day. Although this was a 2 week holiday, I'd do it for a weekend away too.

Forgot about COVID for 2 weeks. It was wonderful and feels way safer than the UK.

Tuba437 · 28/08/2021 21:09

We were about to board to Jamaica this morning with 3 kids. They cancelled it 30 mins before flight citing they only just found out the fco advice changed. Was hard on the kids etc... did it put me off? Nope booked for Cyprus tomo instead.

Just have to accept that travel is going to be like this for a while. As long as you are prepared with tests etc and Have a plan b and maybe even c just in case you should be OK.

RoseWineTime · 28/08/2021 21:42

We’ve just got back from a fortnight in Crete in a villa and it was wonderful! I did worry quite a lot about the tests before going and on return but it all went very smoothly. Everything over their felt very normal, although masks were required inside in shops etc. We ate out a lot but we’re always on terraces outside overlooking the sea/mountains etc, so it felt very safe. Feels like a dream now that we have been home a few days though!

gingercat81 · 28/08/2021 22:10

Yes just back. It was totally worth the extra hassle. The documents were only spot checked anyway. It felt totally normal where we were, only wore masks in taxis and on the plane. Everything else completely normal and it was great being away.

Loudestcat14 · 29/08/2021 09:46

So this might help reassure people worried about being pinged because of someone testing positive on their flight home. We were contacted by Test and Trace yesterday to say a contact had tested positive and it was obvious from the dates that it had to be someone on our return flight to England from Greece. But because we are doubled vaxxed, T & T said we don't have to self-isolate, we just need to take PCR tests, which we ordered online yesterday and have just arrived in the post. We've done LFT too and they are negative so we're not concerned.

99victoria · 29/08/2021 12:54

We went to Kefalonia last month. Everyone on our plane was tested on arrival. They directed us straight off the plane into a queue where we all had LFTs. Test results by text within the hour

AngelsWithSilverWings · 29/08/2021 15:39

@Loudestcat14 similar to us - we flew back from Corfu on Friday and have just been pinged! Assume it's from the flight home as we've not been anywhere else. Booked PCR tests and am about to take a lateral flow to see how it goes. We took our day 2 PCR tests this morning so it seems odd that we also have to book another one but we just have to do as we are told!

I wouldn't bother doing another one if you've done the day 2. We came back from hols in Majorca to find my adult daughter who lives with us had just tested positive. We just did the day 2 test.
