Awful sore throat- PCR rules?

I woke up last night with a sore throat. It's getting worse and worse today, no other symptoms (maybe a very slight sniffle). Very sore.

I work in a school and go back to work on Monday.

I kind of feel like the responsible thing to do would be to get a PCR test, but a) I'm probably not eligible on the basis of a sore throat alone (although I believe a sore throat is a common early delta symptom), and b) I'm not really keen on us all having to isolate while waiting for results, husband missing work etc, when technically I don't have an 'official' Covid symptom and I'm just trying to be cautious/responsible?

I'm a bit fuzzy on the rules at the moment.

No doubt I'll be hauled over the MN coals regardless, but be interested to hear what you would do in my shoes, if anything? I'm keen to do the right thing, I'm just not sure what that is.

Have LFT'd. Negative.

Hope it's negative OP!

Not in the UK but the current advice here is "If you display symptoms of COVID-19 like cough, fever, headache, sore throat and blocked or runny nose - isolate and get a test immediately."

No harm in doing a test but according to Zoe, a Covid sore throat a usually mild. If it’s very sore it could be strep throat.

Following this thread as I also have a sore throat. PCR booked. Hope you test negative OP

Just curious what your test result was OP with the sore throat symptom?

Me too. I've come down with a sore throat this afternoon and have done a LF which is negative. I'm feeling a bit run down too, although that could just be because we had a busy weekend away.

My partner is the same re: sore throat and general tiredness. I didn't think you should do LFT if you had any symptoms - which I think includes sore throats but happy to be corrected!

Update:

PCR was negative. I developed all sorts of other symptoms (including nasty cough) so had a second PCR on Thursday, which was also negative. Daily LFTs too, all negative!

Still not feeling 100% now but as confident as I can be that it was just a garden variety virus!

Glad your test was negative and you’re feeling a bit better OP. I did a test yesterday as I have a sore throat, headache, sniffles and sneezing. Mild cough. I know lots of fully vaccinated people who’ve tested positive with mild cold symptoms. My test has just come back negative, so it is just a cold, but I’m glad I checked.
