Pregnant potential covid - how long did it take for pos test/symptoms

Hi

I am 34 weeks pregnant and today my friend has texted me to say she tested positive for covid.

So we met on Wednesday with our two children. (Her husband tested positive on Thursday). And she tested positive yesterday (Friday).

I'm really worried. We met and went for lunch. I picked her up in my car. I held hands with her little girl and her little girl was playing with my little one. Playing with the same toys and obviously just being kids. My friend and I touched the same surfaces and she helped me with some bags and stuff.

I did a home test today which is negative. So that's 3 days following potential covid exposure.

My question is has anyone else contracted covid whilst pregnant? And for anyone who has had covid how long did it take for your results to show? I'm obviously going to isolate and test daily. Im using the home tests.

Really concerned as I went near my grandma yesterday and she was in my car and touched the same surfaces. Also petrified of me and baby getting unwel and my little one.

I don't know if im imaging it but since she's told me I feel hot, dizzy and really shaky but I think that's more stress and anxiety than anything.

Please help.

Sorry didn’t want to read and run- I’m sure there are others who have contracted this when pregnant and might be able to put your mind at ease- are you vaccinated

missturnbullx · 21/08/2021 16:11

@FeelingJittery1 thank you. No I'm not vaccinated.

My pregnant friend has very recently had Covid and is absolutely fine. She had one vaccine before the pregnancy. She was ill for a few days then seemed to get better quite quickly.

www.rcog.org.uk/en/guidelines-research-services/guidelines/coronavirus-pregnancy/covid-19-virus-infection-and-pregnancy/#pregnancy

The RCOG info link above (scroll down) says 2/3 of pregnant women are asymptomatic with covid and that most others only have a mild illness. Hopefully that’ll be you. There is a small increased risk of severe illness in the third trimester.
It also recommends getting vaccinated so hopefully if you don’t catch it, you can do that once out of isolation.
In terms of timescale for getting it-I think around 5 days from exposure is peak but not sure if any difference in pregnancy.

Bythebeach · 21/08/2021 16:25

(And obviously you need to isolate for 10 days)

Sunshinegirl82 · 21/08/2021 17:32

As with flu there will be an increased risk of more serious illness because your immune system is lowered during pregnancy. That said it isn't certain you will have been infected and you are much more likely to have a mild version of covid than be seriously ill even if you are infected so try not to panic.

Perhaps you could text/call your midwife for some reassurance. If you do develop symptoms I would have a low bar for seeking medical help.

After your period of isolation ends I would suggest you might want to consider having the vaccine or, if not, really pulling back from socialising (particularly indoors) until after your baby is born as I'm not sure it's worth the risk or stress at this stage in the game.

Does anybody know if I got a PCR test tomorrow would the result be accurate or would I be testing too soon if exposure was Wednesday?

Why is everyone saying she needs to isolate? She doesn’t? Close contact isolation is gone & OP has tested negative ..

I mean obviously you can OP but it’s not a requirement anymore 🤷🏼‍♀️

Bobholll · 21/08/2021 18:12

Oh wait, just read you are not vaxxed! My bad, you do have to isolate!

WetBench · 21/08/2021 18:16

Yea not double vaccinated she does need to isolate.
It sounds like there’s a good chance you can get it OP, but you have a heads up and can get a test tomorrow. Even if it’s negative if you get symptoms again at any point you can get another test. Midwives would be happy you getting multiple tests if they need to see you.

missturnbullx · 21/08/2021 18:23

I've booked a PCR test tomorrow. Apparently they can detect covid 1-3 days before symptoms start, whereas the lateral flow that I've used today they can take around 7 days after exposure and need a high viral load. So fingers crossed tomorrow is negative. I'm so nervous. I feel so dizzy and sick. I think it's the stress.

Please get vaccinated when able to do so.

FeelingJittery1 · 22/08/2021 08:53

@missturnbullx hope you are feeling ok

ClearButtons · 22/08/2021 09:11

I recently got covid and am 22 weeks pregnant. I started showing symptoms around 3 days after suspected exposure, tested 4 days after exposure and got a positive PCR result.
I felt quite bad for a few days (bad cough, cold symptoms, headache) then got better quite quickly, after about 4 days of feeling rough and tired. I am not vaccinated yet for various reasons (and now can't until 28 days after positive test!) and my recovery seemed a bit slower than my partner, who has one jab so far and had a couple days of illness then symptoms went . But overall, I wasn't too bad with it and I'm now two weeks since first symptoms and feel mostly fine! (Still have a sporadic Cough and smell still gone but that can take a few weeks to go). I really wouldn't worry too much, just make sure you ring antenatal if you start feeling breathless and seriously sick.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 22/08/2021 09:50

Not pregnant but I developed symptoms sometime around 3-5 days after exposure, I'm not too sure of the exact date I caught it as I saw the person who I caught it from daily at work.

Purplepanda22 · 27/08/2021 09:47

How are you feeling OP? Did you test positive? X

juas · 30/08/2021 17:34

How are you?
