Diabetes and Weight Loss - and Covid

DadAManger · 16/08/2021 19:20

We know that both excess weight and diabetes are a higher risk factor for Covid. And less face it, diabetes is nasty and has related problems (which put me in hospital last year during Covid wave 1).

I am not touting that it works for us all or is a ‘cure’ for diabetes, but I have lost nearly 10kg and dropped 20 points on my blood sugar after three months of intermittent fasting and six weeks of (moderate) exercise. It has really worked. There is a lot of information out there on doing this (and ask me if you want some extra hacks). As always, check with your doctor or nurse first just in case.

I’m not sure if anyone will read this but, if you do, why not give it a go too, if you haven’t already? Let’s smash this f*cking disease and extra weight - if I can do it almost anyone can?!

Well done, losing weight isn't easy so it's always nice to hear success stories Smile

Well done 😊

You're type 2? Please make it clear.

I could diet until I was skin and bone and I'd still be a type 1 diabetic who needs insulin for every crumb of carbohydrate eaten. You'd be amazed how many people think all diabetics are type 2, and that if I wanted to I could be cured. Yeah right.....

I'm type 2 and have recently done the same dropped two stones with the fast 800. Had my bloods done this morning and I'm fully expecting a drastic reduction

Not easy but well worth it for two months out of my life

@FlipFlops4Me - you are right, sorry. I’m Type 2 and I agree it is different for Type 1. Thank you for pointing that out.

Well done. Intermittent fasting is just another way of being in a calorie deficit though. So, whatever works for you.

With diabetes rife in my family I’ve changed to a low carb diet. I shed 4.2 stone in 12 months by eating low carb and making sure I hit at least 10,000 steps per day.

Yes - I find IF makes everything so much simpler. I couldn’t continue another program for 3 months Wink
