Aibu to take the gov.uk website literally?

I have a cold, my whole family and extended family have had the same with the same symptoms (passed it on just before we noticed symptoms in ds). Runny nose, slightly sore throat, feeling crappy. My ds caught it off a snotty kid on his first day at nursery. Lateral flow test negative. I go online to get a pcr test, it asks me if I have a high temp, a new continuous cough or a loss of taste/smell. I have none of these. Aibu to follow what the government are telling me to do and not test?

It seems very silly.
I would be tempted to repeat a LF test.
If you downloaded the Zoe app and logged symptoms, I'm sure it would all you to test and there is a box for that on the govt website.

namechangeandNC · 15/08/2021 20:34

No symptoms so wouldn't test

XenoBitch · 15/08/2021 20:34

I believe the symptoms of the Delta variant are more cold like, but the Gov site has not been updated with this.

Pissinthepottyplease · 15/08/2021 20:46

I would lie and get a PCR test.

dementedpixie · 15/08/2021 20:47

Just lie and get tests

MarshaBradyo · 15/08/2021 20:48

Me too I just did an LFT and it was negative

prsphne · 15/08/2021 20:49

I think you can now say no to the symptoms and then it gives 5-6 reasons for you to order the PCR test, not sure if any of these will apply but I know where I live (England but area with higher cases) we can order PCR without symptoms

Waxonwaxoff0 · 15/08/2021 20:51

LFTs are really dodgy. I have Covid and have done several LFTs this week, all negative. I'm asymptomatic and only went for a PCR as a work colleague tested positive.

ItsSnowJokes · 15/08/2021 20:51

A lot of lfts are not picking up the delta variant. I know 6 people now who tested with lfts and all negative. Went for pcrs and were all positive, 3 have been quite ill with it.

Yes I went for a PCR due to being in contact with a positive case, I have no symptoms and my PCR was positive. So you can get one without the classic symptoms.
RandomMess · 15/08/2021 20:53

I would get a PCR because those are the symptoms of everyone I know whose had it recently including myself.

kowari · 15/08/2021 22:04

No symptoms, no test.

hellsbells99 · 15/08/2021 22:12

DH & I have lied to get a test today. Said he had been in contact with a positive case. He has a bad cold and feels very rough. Would rather take a sensible and cautious approach. He did a negative lateral flow test on Friday evening.

worriedatthemoment · 15/08/2021 23:36

We lied when dh had a cold about 10 days or so ago as heard delta variant , he had negative , then developed a cough and had another pcr and still negative
Then i developed a cough knew likely dh virus but had a pcr and again negative , I did have cough so qualified but even if I just had cold and felt unwell I would of prob lied to get one, as going into work and don't want to pass anything on

worriedatthemoment · 15/08/2021 23:37

Saying that I know many who have had colds but not main 3 symptoms but who have not tested and said its just a cold

MiniMaxi · 15/08/2021 23:44

Everyone saying “no symptoms no test” is a muppet

It’s widely known that the original three main symptoms were three of many back then and even less relevant now

Get a test OP!

People are clutching at the government rules as justification for not finding out that they've got covid, so they won't have to isolate and miss work or holidays. The official symptom list gives them plausible deniability.

Exactly my point. I can't lie it is tempting, but I will get a test. Surely it would only take a few clicks for the website to be updated though

Get a test OP!

Why isn't the website updated then? The OP can only get a test if they are eligible.
